SICAS Interview with Mr. Cheng Lin--Head of the Admission Office of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SHUFE)

SICAS is a specialized organization is wanted to meet the practical demands for overseas study of International students along with their nations and to go with the “Studying in China” trend. Since its foundation, SICAS has established reliable partnerships with more than 200 first-rate universities in China, including Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SHUFE). On May 29, 2010, SICAS CEO Ms Zhanglu and SICAS School Liaison Department staff members met with Mr. Cheng Lin—Head of the Admission Office of SHUFE, during which he accepted an exclusive SICAS interview.

What follows is a transcript of the conversation which has been slightly condensed, and edited for clarity:

Host: First of all, thank you obviously for your time, Mr. Cheng. Could you please give us a brief introduction of SHUFE?
Mr. Cheng: Sure. Located in Shanghai, an International metropolitan of global attention, SHUFE is a highly prestigious institute of higher learning. SHUFE has embraced Internationalization and regularly collaborates with such institutions as the World Bank's Economic Development Institute (EDI), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In addition, SHUFE works well with International professional organizations, such as the UK's Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Canada's Certified General Accountants (CGA), the USA’s Life Office Management Association (LOMA), the UK's Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), and the British Insurance Actuary Association (BIAA).

Host: It seems that SHUFE is suitable for those who're interested in dealing with business in China. What programs are offered at SHUFE?
Mr. Cheng: A specialty of SHUFE is the English-conducted International finance master's program. Besides, International students can also choose the Chinese-instructed programs for the sake of having a thorough understanding of Chinese ways of doing business. Foreign students can choose non-degree programs to study Chinese or business Chinese. Bachelor's degree programs cover various majors, such as economics, finance etc., with teaching Chinese as a foreign language (economic and trade direction) as a key program. In addition to the International finance in the medium of English, master's degree programs also include other hot majors, for example, MBA.

Host: The courses are various and highly qualified. What about teaching staff? Are they experienced in teaching International students?
Mr. Cheng: Of course. SHUFE has quite advanced teaching resources. For example, there is a brand-new E-center for Independent English Learning that houses a rich selection of English-learning tools. The university also uses the Blackboard Academic Suite, which helps teachers and students electronically connect, communicate and collaborate most effectively. In addition, there are cutting-edge laboratories and abundant research materials on campus serving the fields of Finance, Economics, Accounting and Economic Journalism. Furthermore, SHUFE has an internet-enabled computer network that links administrative offices, academic departments, student dormitories and classrooms.
