Geography and Climate

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang province and lies in the southeastern coast of China. It is the second largest economic city in the Yangtze Delta and only 180 kilometers from the metropolitan of Shanghai. The city, the southern terminus of the Grand Canal, is the political, economic and cultural center in the region and is the transportation hub in the southeastern China.

Hangzhou has a subtropical type climate with four distinct seasons. The summer is hot and wet while the winter is cool and dry. The gold seasons for tourists are spring and autumn during which the temperature is moderate and the sunshine is rich. With its splendid natural beauty and cultural heritages, Hangzhou is one of China’s most important tourist resorts.
 
Tourist Attractions

The world famous Italian traveler Marco Polo once praised Hangzhou as the “world’s most beautiful and nobly city” in Yuan Dynasty. The West Lake is undoubtedly the most famous feature of Hangzhou. Located in the center of Hangzhou, the West Lake is renowned for its scenic beauty that blends naturally with many notable historical sites. In general, the picturesque scenery of West Lake can be briefly concluded as ‘one lake, two hills, three fountains, four temples, five mountains, six parks, seven caves, eight tombs, and nine streams’. In this scenic area, Solitary Hill, the tomb of Yue Fei, the Six Harmonies Pagoda and the Ling Yin Temple are probably the most renowned visiting sites.

Having been selected as one of the’ Top 10 China’s Viewing Sites’, the West Lake is also famous for a number of national museums around it. Those museums provide ways to witness the prosperous of Chinese culture with the fine example are the National Silk Museum and Tea Museum.

You shouldn’t have visited Hangzhou without drinking and eating. The Hangzhou dishes are famed for their elaborate preparation, sophisticated cooking and light taste. There are numerous delicate dishes like the West Lake Fish in Sweet Sour Source, the Dongpo Pork and Fried Shrimps with Longjing Tea, etc. The city also has a tea cultural and there are lots of teahouses and various kinds of pubs by the side of the West Lake. You can view the scenery beauty of West Lake while enjoying a cup of hot tea which will sure make you feel relaxed and refreshed.

One of another important part of travelling in Hangzhou is shopping on the historic streets with unique antique buildings for some traditional Chinese specialties. The Qing He Fang Street is one of the most famous and significant shopping streets that reflects many of the features of the Southern Song Dynasty. Visitors can experience the history while purchasing items range from silks, tea to a beautiful Hangzhou handmade fan.

Today’s Hangzhou is a modern and vibrant economical center. Thanks to the development of tourism industry, more and more people have known Hangzhou.
