PKU Vice President Li Yansong meets with UA Vice Chancellor

Peking University, Dec.21, 2011: On the afternoon of December 14, Peking University (PKU) Vice President Li Yansong met with Professor Iain Martin, vice chancellor of the University of Auckland (UA) at Linhuxuan.
 
Vice President Li first congratulated Professor Martin on taking up the vice-chancellor position of UA, and expressed a warm welcome for his visit. The ties of friendship and cooperation between PKU and UA play a crucial role in the construction of PKU’s New Zealand Centre.. President Li hoped that the New Zealand Centre at PKU would serve as the best platform for New Zealand research in China, and further promote relations between the two universities. Later, President Li briefly introduced the history of PKU to the visitors, focusing especially on the development of the PKU Health Science Center. “In the future, UA and PKU should strengthen communication by launching more student exchange projects,” commented President Li.
 
Professor Martin expressed his gratitude for President Li’s hearty welcome and congratulations. He highly appreciated the friendship established between the two universities, and looked forward to  more academic cooperation. Professor Martin hoped that both universities would support the development of the New Zealand Centre at PKU over the coming decade.
  
The New Zealand Centre at PKU was established on May 21, 2007, jointly initiated by UA and PKU. The center facilitates academic and cultural exchanges between the two universities. It works as an instructive and communicative platform for political, economic and cultural activities between New Zealand and China, and makes possible the sharing of many educational resources between the two universities.
 
The University of Auckland (UA) was founded in 1883. Today the UA is the largest institution of higher education in New Zealand. It attracts academic talent from both home and abroad, and can be considered an important international teaching center. With a long history of education and research, the UA can boast some of the most advanced scientific technology and teaching methods in the world, especially in the fields of humanities, biomedicine, engineering and technology.
