College of Economics

In order to meet the needs of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, as long ago as 1918 Jinan University established the Department of Commerce. A common saying subsequently became, “First there was Jinan, then there was the Department of Commerce” Domestically and Overseas the College became well-known for its “Jinan Characteristics” . Following China’s reform and opening in 1979, based on its advantageous geographic location and it being the “University for Overseas Chinese”, Jinan University established the College of Economics.  This faculty has now grown into one of the leading colleges of South China, providing a complete range of academic disciplines, an excellent faculty, broad academic exchanges, and outstanding social services. It enjoys a sterling reputation in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as well as in Southeast Asia. The ability of the College to serve as a research center for the study of global economic activities has been significantly improved, with many of its research papers being adopted as the scientific basis for governmental policies and decision-making.
