The Dalian International Airport (DIA)

Dalian International Airport was originally built in 1972 and since then has undergone several expansions to become the largest and busiest international airport in northeast China. It presently covers an area of 284 hectares (702 acres), including a parking apron of 200,000 sq m (49 acres), a terminal of 65,000 sq m (16 acres) and a runway 3,300m (2 miles) in length. As one of the alternate airports for Beijing Capital Airport, it is constructed to international standards being capable of handling such large planes as the B747-400, B777, A320, etc. Its 108 air routes, 73 of which are domestic, connect the airport to 84 cities enabling the airport to handle 6,000,000 passengers each year.

By Airport Shuttle Bus

Regular airport shuttle buses leave for the city center after each flight arrival. A single ticket is RMB 5. In the city center buses leave for the airport from the Civil Aviation Building at No. 143, Zhongshan Lu, Xigang District.
The route of the shuttle bus: DIA Airport -> Chunliu -> Shahekou Railway Station - > Wuyi Square -> Civil Aviation Building -> Shengli Square (Victory Square) -> Renmin Lu

SICAS Reminder: The public buses 532, 701 and 710 also travel between the airport and the city area – a ticket is just RMB one. A taxi from the airport to the city center takes about ten minutes and costs RMB 20.

Daily Transportation Guide


Dalian has a comprehensive bus system. There are hundreds of bus lines in the city and one can get anywhere by bus. Dalian also has three tram lines. Buses start operating at 4:00 or 4:30 in the morning and stop operating at 22:00 or 23:50 in the evening. Buses run at intervals of 3 to 8 minutes. During rush hour, they run every 1 to 2 minutes. Most buses sell tickets without conductors. A single ticket is 1 RMB. Passengers should have the exact fare. The minibuses are either small or medium sized. A single ticket is 2 RMB.
High-speed trams to Xianglujiao and Gold Stone Beach have been added, helping to relief traffic congestion in Dalian.

As the terminus of the Harbin-Dalian Railway (Ha Da Railway), Dalian is well connected to the networks that crfiss-cross the northern and eastern parts of China. Trains from the city can reach all cities in Dongbei (northeastern China) area and Beijing, Shanghai and Hankou.

The high speed air-conditioned Tourist Specials running between Dalian and Beijing, Shenyang, Harbin and Changchun make excursions convenient. From Shenyang to Dalian there are two express trains - Liaoning-Shenyang Evening Express and Jinshitan Express.

By Ship

Dalian is a very busy port with ships traveling between Dalian and Yantai, Weihai, Penglai, Qinhuang islands, port of Tianjin, and Changhai County. High-speed tourist ships between Dalian and Yantai, Qinhuang islands and Changhai County have been added. There are also passenger ships that travel between Dalian port and Incheon, South Korea. Dalian port station is situated in northern Wuwu Road in east Dalian.  From here, board bus 801 or 13 to go downtown.
