1.3 The doctors in our major are encouraged to participate into various cultural and physical activities, adhering to do the trainings, so as to keep the body healthy and vigorous.
1.4 "Material science" is a subject of researching the interaction between the material microstructure and macroscopic performance in the material preparation and material application, using the methods or instrumentalities of modern physics and chemistry. 2. The fixed number of year
1) The study period for doctor is 3 years.
2) The study period for both master and doctor degrees successively with only one unified entrance is 4.5-5 years.
3) The study period for doctor on-the-job is 4-6 years.

4.2 Credit Hours Requirement
1) Doctors for three years semester: At least 16 credit hours for the curriculum study are required, including 2 public courses,1 special course and science proseminar
2) Doctors with a current job: It is the same demand for the curriculum setting as the doctors for three years semester. But time is flexible according to the job's situation.
In order to increase the science level, it is demanded that doctors should deliver 5 lectures and publish 3 papers during the study.
5.Science research and Thesis work
5.1 Opening report
5.1.1 The subject of the report: The question for discussion in the paper should be concerning the foreland researches of our major, or some essential issues related to the economy of our country.
5.1.2 The prerequisite of the report: The reporter ought to finish all the credit hours, which is supposed to be at least 16 credit hours for a doctor, prescribed by the project of cultivation and hand over 2-3 reports on special topics or brief summaries concerning academic conferences.
5.1.3 The requirements for the report: The reporter has to accomplish the opening report in one year, which is supposed to be more than 8000 words. The content of the very report should include such aspects as a review, the significance of selected subject, involved contents of the research, knots and uniqueness of the research, expected results, potential innovational points, so and so, followed by more than 50 cited articles.
5.1.4 The evaluation of the report: 7 senior professionals, with more than 4 professors, are organized to evaluate the report as audiences. With the permission of the 7 senior professionals, the report will be turned into public in result.
5.2 Mid-term report

5.3 Thesis answer for the degree
5.3.1 Precondition:
A. Three or above papers in the core periodical, published or accepted. And achieve the demand of "the research achievement quantification norm of the academic degree delegation of the Shanghai University".
B. Participating more than 30 academic reports and be defined as qualitication.
C. Completed the thesis of the doctor's degree, preliminarily read by the supervisor then reread by 2-3 professors, and passed.
5.3.2 Pass the pre-answer of the thesis.
