I. Program Overview
The master program of logistics engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) was initiated in 2004. In the past decade, it has developed a mature talent training mode and had a good reputation and strong competitiveness in China. The discipline of logistics management and engineering of BJTU ranks first in China. The graduates of the master program of Logistics Engineering are qualified to undertake logistic management and technical work in sectors like railway, aviation, shipping, port, storage and so on. This is a 2 years’ M.E. program.
II. Program Characteristics
1. You will enjoy the advantage of the STRONG DISCIPLINE. The discipline of logistics management and engineering of BJTU takes the leading position in China. It is the first Chinese university entitled for master and PhD degree conferral in the field of logistics and the first one with an integrated logistic education system covering bachelor, master and PhD levels. In 2015, BJTU logistics management and engineering is evaluated as China’s No. 1 in this academic field by Research Center for China Science Evaluation and Network of Science and Education Evaluation in China.
2. You will be supported by the STRONG FACULTY TEAM. With the honor of Excellent Teaching Team of Beijing, the faculty members of logistics engineering are 11 professors, 10 associate professors, and 3 lecturers, among whom there is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. Two of them graduated from foreign universities. The rest have about 1 year oversea education or visiting experience. In addition, BJTU invites well-known specialists from railway, energy and logistics enterprises as co-supervisor. The supervisor from BJTU and co-supervisor from enterprise are DOUBLE SUPERVISORS for you.
3. We provide PLATFORMS AND RESOURCES. Your study, scientific research and practice will be accepted by a number of teaching platforms such as the Development & Research Base of Beijing, Logistics Management and Technical Key Laboratory of Beijing, Research Base for Logistics Informatization of Beijing and Education Center for Master of Engineering. Moreover, many graduates of the program are employed by large state-owned enterprises like China Railway Corporation, China Railway Group, State Grid Corporation of China, China Power Investment Corporation, China Mobile and China Post, etc. That is beneficial alumni recourse for your personal development.
4. You will keep track of INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT. BJTU makes academic research and project implementation achievements in basic logistics theory, regional logistics planning, energy logistics, agricultural products logistics, cold-chain logistics, pharmaceutical logistics, port logistics etc, which will give strong backing to your education.
5. You can get INTERNATIONAL RECOGNIZATION. BJTU is the partner of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport International, UK (CILT, UK). The students of the master program of logistics engineering can get a Diploma for Operation Managers in Logistics (DOML) conferred by CILT, UK by submitting qualified a case review.
III. Education Plan
Research Areas
The program include sub research areas of supply chain management, enterprise logistics operation and planning, engineering logistics, logistics information system engineering, procurement and supply logistics management.
Education Mode and Study Duration
In this 2 years’ program, students should study courses at BJTU for the first academic year and undertake professional internship, practice and research for the second academic year. Those who accomplish all the required stages will be awarded M.E. diploma and graduation certificate of BJTU.
Program Curriculum and Credits
1. Credits
8 credits of general courses, 11 credits of basic courses, 10 credits of major core courses, 6 credits of major optional course and 6 credits of practice report and scientific research report writing.
2. Syllabus
Note: The above-mentioned courses are for reference only.
3. Ways of Teaching
In line with the characteristics of logistics engineering, BJTU conducts two ways of teaching: one is the lessons taught by faculty team of BJTU in English medium and the other one is teachings outside BJTU conducted by senior engineers or managers with rich practical experiences.
BJTU makes full use of group study, case analysis, field study and simulation training in the process of teaching, forming a teaching mode combined classroom teaching, scholars’ lectures and entrepreneurs’ forum and field-based teaching.
4. Course Study and Practice
(1) Course Study
Course study will be conducted in autumn semester, spring semester and mini semester. The course study for this program shall be finished within 1academic year.
(2) Practical Training
Practical training includes practical courses and internship. Students shall start practical training in the second academic year. The time devoted to practical training shall be no less than 1 year. At the beginning of the internship, students shall submit their internship plan. After finishing internship, they shall submit an internship report with no less than 5,000 words and an internship accreditation certificate issued by the company. The minimum time limit of the internship is 6 months and the quality of the internship should get the recognition of tutors. If all the above mentioned demands are satisfied, students will acquire the credits.
Scientific Research
Students are encouraged to take part in logistics scientific projects organized by their tutors and internship companies. They shall participate in at least 4 times of academic activities and lectures during the study.
Research Paper
The topics of research paper shall come from applied projects or practical problems with specific professional background and application value. Research paper shall cover the comparison, evaluation, design and analysis of relevant projects with complete relevant documents. If it is about planning and designing projects related to logistics system, it shall have technical and economic comparison and corresponding technical documents. If it is about new procedure and new method designing, it shall have complete technical documents and analysis about the design. If it is about the design and development of certain logistics information system, it shall have relevant systematic technical documents and relevant software. If it is about the logistics management achievements, it shall apply advanced management theory and method with analysis of implementation results.
After completing all the arrangements stipulated in the training plan, and getting the required credits, students can apply to do research paper reports.
Only after getting tutor’s approval, can students report the paper to the research paper report committee, which is composed of 3 to 5 experts with senior professional title in logistics engineering area and relevant engineering areas. If students pass the reporting, related documents will be submitted to the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of BJTU for the diploma.
