Engineering in China

Engineering Education in China -Detailed introduction

China is today the largest producer of engineering graduates in the world, with some 600,000 passing out of its colleges and universities last year. Compared to India and China, the United States produces only 70,000 engineering graduates every year. All of Europe produces just 100,000.

More and more Chinese universities nowadays offer all types of engineering courses available to international students in English medium. The duration of a bachelor degree course lasts for four years, 2-3 years for master degree and 3-5 years for doctoral degree. The starting dates of these engineering courses are most in September and some in March or April every year. The tuition fees differ based on schools as well as cities, but the average annual tuition fees range from 12,000 to 20,000 Chinese yuan. Currently, you don’t need to show your English level if you want to get a bachelor degree in an English-taught program, especially if you are a native English speaker.

Future Opportunities

China is the world’s second largest economy after the United States. It is the world's fastest-growing major economy, with average GDP growth rates of 10% during the past 30 years. Most of the world top 500 companies are doing business in China, to name a few, Mercedes-Benz, General Motor, British Petroleum and Siemens etc have launched their plants and world class assemble lines in China. Many of these companies have established cooperation relationship with Chinese universities to absorb overseas students for internship and employment. For example, Siemens China has established cooperation relationship with more than 70 Chinese universities and vocational colleges since 2004 and it has brought Siemens’ advanced training program and other internship projects into those institutes. Many overseas students moved into these international groups after graduation in China with some of them assigned as general managers to subsidiaries in America, the UK and other advanced countries.

There are also great chances that you can take part in the bilateral overseas engineering projects carried by Chinese government like infrastructure construction and resource development in countries like Ghana, South Africa and Pakistan etc. Familiar with your home country and expertise in engineering technique, there is great chance for you to be in charge of these engineering projects and find your way to realize your dream as well as serve your country. Recent news reported by Xinhua (Chinese Official Press Medium) that China is ready to take their bilateral relations to a next level by provide financial and technical assistance to Pakistan for launching its first satellite. A great number of these kind of projets are being carried by Chinese government nowadays.
