The great wall--- A symbol of amazing ancient engineering in China

China boasts 5000 years continuous civilization which is also known as a miracle in human history. Innovative and smart, ancient Chinese people had turned numerous fantasies into realities. From the amazing Dujiang Weir to the grand three gorges dam, from the great wall to the modern high-speed railway, from the regal Forbidden City to vivid Bird Nest, etc. Chinese engineering has been enjoying global reputation for thousands of years.

Chinese modern engineering and technology have developed rapidly since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. This growth has been especially dramatic following the adoption of national reform and openness policies nearly 20 years ago.

Civil Engineering

After entering the new millennium the world had been witnessing a series of civil engineering wonders from China. The accomplishment of the grand three gorges dam which is known as the largest hydraulic engineering project in the world, the high speed railway system which can reach a speed of 300 kilometers per hour without any difficulties and The latest accomplishment of Qingzang railway which is running at an elevation of 4000 meters above sea level boasts one of the top civil engineering miracles in human history.

Petroleum

SINOPEC (China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation), CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation), CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation) and SINOCHEM Group are some of the largest state-owned fuel-producing corporations in China. These companies also carried out many national overseas resource development projects around the world, especially in Africa. By 2010, there are 94 overseas projects with the total output of crude oil amount to 110 million tons. There are several key universities which are specialized in petroleum engineering related subjects in China. The Chinese University of Petroleum, Shenyang Shihua University   and Xi’an Shiyou Universities are among the top of these universities.

Telecommunication

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is a symbol of strength of Chinese telecommunication industry. The multinational company headquartered in Shenzhen, China, is the world second-largest supplier of mobile telecommunications infrastructure equipment, only after Ericsson. It serves 45 of the world’s 50 largest telecoms operators and it boasts numerous R&D centers located all over the world. Accompanied with the rise of Huawei and ZTE (the second-largest Chinese telecoms equipment maker and world's fourth-largest mobile phone vendor), Chinese telecommunication industry has established its global expansion strategy. It is great likely that you can join the trend while studying telecommunication engineering in China.

Computer & Software

Chinese computing industry has increased rapidly after the turning of the new millennium. There are more than ninety thousands of computer and related accessories producers in China. In 2005, Lenovo (Chinese largest PC producer) acquired the former IBM PC Company Division and marketed the ThinkPad line of laptops for approximately 1.75 billion USD in the year. At present, Lenovo is the fourth largest vendor of personal computers in the world. Chinese IT industry is also enjoying increasingly reputation worldwide, for example, the Alibaba.com Corporation is China’s largest and the world’s second largest IT Company which is specialized in B2B electronic commerce. It went public in 2007 in Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. The value of Chinese IT market is estimated to reach 1,300 billion Chinese yuan by 2011 and there is a bad need for software engineers in China.
