Visa X visa International students can apply to embassies or consulates of People’s Republic of China for an X visa (study visa) with the Admission Letter from SUFE, form JW202 or form JW201 and report of health examination for foreigners (for those with more than half a year’s study in China). F visa International students with less than half a year’s study in China can apply for an F visa (Visting visa) for 150- or 180-day stay in China. L visa International students who fail to obtain an X visa or an F visa for some reasons can apply for an L visa (travel visa) to come to China, then apply for residence permit during the period of validity of L visa. Attention After visa application, please take back form JW202 or form JW201. Residence permit application 1.International students with X visas are required to apply for residence permit within 30 days after their arrival in China. When they apply for residence permit, they are required to submit the report of health examination or the report of permission validation issued by Shanghai Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, InternationalTravelHealthcareCenter. 2.An F visa or an L visa does not have to be turned into residence permit within its period of validity For an international student with an F visa or an L visa that studies for less than 6 months in China, neither residence permit nor health examination is required. 3.Location and time for visa application a. Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau will come to Shanghai University of Finance and Economics to provide visa application service, which will be arranged by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE during enrollment time of each new semester. The schedule will be noticed by InternationalCultural Exchange School. Please pay attention. b. Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau If the student misses the scheduled time for visa application, he/she is to go to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau for visa application. Application for the extension of residence permit An international student studying in SUFE whose residence permit expires can apply for its extension if he/she continues to study in SUFE. The following materials are required: a. The original valid passport and Chinese visa b. Original copy of Letter of Introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c. One ID photo, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced d. One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence 6 Move of residence permit The international students with a residence permit in cities other than Shanghai are required to register the move in the local Public Security Bureau before moving to Shanghai, free of charge. The holders of residence permit in cities other than Shanghai can apply for its extension in Shanghai. Service fee and time for residence permit application 1 Service fee Service fee for the application for residence permit is to be paid to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau a. 400 RMB for a permit valid less than one year (not including one year) b. 800 RMB for a permit valid 1 to 3 years (not including 3 years); 1,000 RMB for a permit valid 3 years to 5 years. 2 Service time The service time for residence permit in Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau is 5 working days each week. Change and cancellation 1 Change of residence permit 1.1 Application for a new residence permit If there is a change about the cause of residence, the number of passport, or persons one travels with, the residence permit holder is required to apply to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau for a new residence permit within 10 days after the change with 200 RMB as service fee. The following materials are required for the application: a.Original copy of valid passport and visa. If passport number is changed, the original copies of new passport and old passport, or the report of losing passport are required b.Original copy of Letter of Introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c.One ID photo, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced d.One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence 1.2 Change of residence permit When a change happens to address or schools one studies in, the residence permit holder is to register in Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau within 10 days after the change. The change of address should be reported to International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE and the Registration form of International Student Living off Campus of SUFE is to be filled. Then the students go to register with local police station where they live for new Registration form of Temporary Residence for Visitors or proof of accommodation in hotels or boarding houses. Change of residence permit will be processed free of charge. The following materials are required for change of residence permit: a. Original copy of valid passport and visa. b.Original copy of Letter of Introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c.One ID photo, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced d.One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence 2 Cancellation of residence permit International students who quit studying temporarily for causes as suspension, quitting and resumption of Schooling,or are expelled by the university, are to apply for the cancellation of residence permit, which will expire after more than one month, abiding by the following steps: a. To apply to International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE for Letter of Introduction. b. To apply to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau for cancellation of residence permit. c. To report to International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE and finish school leaving procedure and to leave China within permitted time. Expiration of residence permit International students with an expired residence permit are required 1 To pay a fine To pay a fine of 500 RMB per day and 5,000 RMB at most for expired residence permit to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau. 2 To apply for a new visa 2.1 Residence permit expires less than 3 months (including 3 months) ago. For the international students whose residence permit expires less than 3 months (including 3 months) ago, the following materials for application for a new visa are required: a. Original copy of valid passport. b.Original copy of Letter of introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c.One ID photo, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced d.One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence e.Original copy of fine receipt provided by Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau 2.2 Residence permit expires 3 months ago. If the international students whose residence permit expires 3 months ago want to apply for a new residence permit, they are required to have health examination in Shanghai Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, InternationalTravelHealthcareCenter. Only after one obtains health certificate can he/she apply for a new residence permit. The following materials are required for application: a. Original copy of valid passport. b.Original copy of Letter of Introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c.One ID photo, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced d.One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence e.Original copy of health certificate provided by Shanghai Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, InternationalTravelHealthcareCenter f.Original copy of fine receipt provided by Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau. Application for a new visa and residence permit after losing passport Application for a new visa and residence permit after losing passport follows four steps: 1 To obtain the Report of Losing Passport from Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, carrying identity certificate such as student card or photocopy of passport. 2 To apply to the embassies or consulates of their own countries in China for a new passport, carrying the Report of Losing Passport provided by Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau. 3 To apply to International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE for a Letter of Introduction. 4 To apply to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau for a new residence permit or other visas. The following materials are required for the application: a. Original copy of the new valid passport. b.Original copy of Letter of Introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c. One ID photo, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced d. One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence e. One photocopy of the lost passport including the page of previous residence permit. Application for a visa and residence permit for dependents of international students 1 Dependent visa is for: a. Parents or guardians of international students b. Spouse of international students c. International students’ Children under the age of 18 Other people including siblings of international students are not qualified for a dependent visa. 2 Categories of dependent visa and period of validity Dependents of international students can apply for an L and 0 entry visa with a valid period less than one year and within the valid period of international students’ own residence permit. 3 Dependent visa application 3.1 Dependents outside China Dependents of international students outside China can apply to embassies or consulates of People’s Republic of China for a visa with following documents: a.Original copy of dependents’ valid passport b.Original copy of Proof of University Attendance of International Students provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE c. One photocopy of international students’ valid passport including visa page d. Original copy of Proof of Relationship 3.2 Dependents already in China If the dependent is already in China, the international student and his/her dependent apply to Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau for a dependent visa with following materials: a. Original copy of international student’s valid passport b.Original copy of the dependent’s valid passport c.Original copy of Letter of introduction provided by International Cultural Exchange School of SUFE d. Original copy or photocopy of Proof of Relationship e. One photocopy of Registration Form of Temporary Residence f. One ID photo of the dependent, the size of passport photo, bareheaded and full-faced. Examination of visa and residence permit International students and their dependents over the age of 16 in China should carry their passport and ID certificate such as student card with them for possible examination by police of foreign affairs. If Exit-Entry Administration of Shanghai Public Security Bureau considers it necessary, it can ask international students to go to Exit-Entry Administration for an examination of their residence permit.
