School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering

The School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control engineering consists of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Measurement and Control Engineering, Power and Control Engineering, Institute of Locomotive and Rolling Stock, Institute of Material Science and Engineering and Center of Engineering Aptitude Training.

We have a strong academic staff team. There are 177 staff members in our school currently. They include one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 31 professors, 52 associate professors and 12 senior engineers. Among the staff members, there are 29 Ph.D advisors, 91 master graduate advisors, 61% of the staff owned Ph.D degree. There are 3 people selected in New Century excellent talent Plan; two staff are excellent teachers in Beijing and Education Ministry. 8 people are skeleton and excellent young teachers in Beijing, 2 people are leaders of their research area in Beijing, and 3 people are top-notch talents in Railway and Transportation Ministry. 40 people are excellent teachers in the University.

At present there are 5 major areas of undergraduate study, 12 professional sites for the Master’s degree, 6 second-level sites for Ph.D degree, 1 first-level site for Ph. D degree and one postdoctoral research station. The school has one key national discipline which is Transportation Vehicle Application Engineering, one national characteristic major which is Railway Vehicle Equipment Major under the discipline of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, one Engineering Research Center of Education Ministry and one Demonstration center of Experimental Academy of Beijing.

The school has 1491 full time undergraduate students, 468 master graduate students and 79 Ph.D graduate students.

The school has many centers and laboratories,  which consist  of  one national authentication lab on measure-Structure Strength Test and Measuring Laboratory of Beijing Jiaotong University, one integration laboratory center of modern manufacturing technologies, testing and measuring technologies lab, Safety technology and Human-Machine Engineering Lab, power engineering and environment Lab, locomotive vehicle lab, etc. The labs and centers are equipped with advanced apparatuses and facilities which provide a good foundation and means for academic and research.

During recent three years, the school accomplished research funds up to 94.5 million Yuan, which include 2 “973 project” , 12 “863 project”, 19 NSFC projects, 9 projects from Beijing Scientific Committee, 28 projects from other ministry, 300 projects from industry. The number of paper indexed by SCI is 114 and the one indexed by EI is 135. There are 31 items of authorized patents, including 11 items of ministry awarded.

The undergraduates of the 5 major areas complete their same main courses during their first two years’ study. From the 3rd academic year, they can choose the major according their own interests, specialty and requirement of society. The School has conducted extensive academic exchanges with oversea universities and institutes. At present, it has set up close relations with many universities in the U.S., Europe and Taiwan in research and teaching fields. Excellent undergraduate students and postgraduate students will get the opportunities to participate in joint academic program and study overseas.
