Economics


The School of Economics of Sichuan University (SESU) was founded on November 1985, evolved from the former Department of Economics founded in 1905. It has over 100 years of history. Many famous Chinese economists, such as Dixian Peng, Tao Song, Daiguang Hu, Dayong Tao, Jichuang Hu, Xumo Jiang, Shibai Liu etc., had studied or worked here.

The school’s mission is to provide outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and professional education to promising, qualified students in order to prepare them to contribute fully to society in economics theory and applied management. The school has formed her distinctive features in the fields such as the world economics, regional economics, macroeconomics, real estate, finance and the system of enterprise.

The school has seven teaching units and twenty-three research units. The seven teaching units include Department of Economics, Department of National Economic Management, Department of International Economics and Trade, Department of Finance, Department of Finance and Taxation, Department of Financial Engineering, and English Education Ministry. The Institute of World Economy Research, West China Center for Financial Research, and South Asia Institute are part of the twenty-three research units.

The school has set up academic exchanges, exchange of visiting scholars, joint research and joint cooperation with more than 10 well-known universities in the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Greece, Australia, Japan and other countries.

The school is one of the schools which have cooperative projects between China and the European Union (EU), and it is also one of the five EU-funded National Documentation Centers in China. The school library has over 110 thousand volumes of Chinese books and documents, 20 thousand volumes of foreign language books and EU literature, over 400 kinds of newspapers and periodicals. And the school has its own computer lab, multi-media classrooms and electronic reading room.
