Program Description

Materials are the material base of the social progress. Materials, energy and informatics have been considered as the three pillars of modern civilization. This major here at Tsinghua has developed a unique advantage in the direction of research in areas such as functional materials and devices, biomedical materials, non-equilibrium materials, nanomaterials and devices, energy and environmental materials, high performance ceramic materials, advanced metallic materials, high performance macromolecular and composite materials, computational materials science, and in the theory of material processing. Students will be able to grasp vast yet systematic basic knowledge of Materials Science. (Individuals with color blindness are not accepted into this major)
Main courses included Mathematics, Physics, Fundamentals of Computer, Engineering Mechanics, Quantum and Statistical, Solid State Physics, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Mechanics Properties and Statistics of Ceramics, Physical Properties of Materials, Fundamentals of Mechanics Properties of Materials, Experiments on Chemistry Property of Materials, Advanced Composite materials, and Electron Microscope Analysis etc.

On-line application: March 1 – March16, 2012.

Hardcopies of application materials due: March 19 - March 30, 2012.

Entrance Examination
(1) Subjects of Written Examination for Science, Engineering and Management Programs: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English.

(2) Subjects of Written Examination for Law, Humanities and Social Sciences Programs: Basic Chinese Language, Chinese Writing, General Knowledge, and English.

(3) Subjects of Written Examination for Arts and Design Programs: Chinese Writing, General Knowledge, Sketch, Quick Sketch, and Color Painting.

Extra exams are requested for some programs: Sketch for Architecture Program, Oral Test for English and Japanese Programs, and Mathematics for Experimental Class of Social Sciences and Psychology.

Interview may also be requested by some department/schools.
Date of Entrance Examination
Written Examination: May 12 - 13, 2012

The applicants to be interviewed will be notified after written exams.

Entry Requirements

1. Foreign citizens under 25 and in good health
2. Graduation from senior high school;
3. HSK Band 6 / new HSK Band 5 or above.

Application Materials

1.  Photocopy of valid passport
With photo, passport number &expiration date and name included.

2.  Passport-sized photo
A passport-sized photo taken recently of the applicant.

3.  Graduation certificate of high school
Graduation certificate should be in Chinese or English.If not, it should be translated into Chinese or English and be notarized.

4.  Academic transcript of high school

5.  HSK Certificate (No need for English-taught program)
Level 3 or above

6.  Two recommendation letters
From professor,associate professor or equivalents.

7. A notarization of guarantor in China
Only for applicants under 18 years old.
