Program Description

I. Introduction
Tianjin University is one of the 10 universities to provide Foundation Program for International Undergraduates awarded with Chinese Government Scholarships under the Ministry of Education in China. Around 1000 international students, with solid Chinese language skills, strong adaptability in professional learning and high-level intercultural communication competence, have graduated from Tianjin University and sought their further study in renowned Chinese universities. At present, more than 220 foreign students from 63 countries supported by Chinese Government Scholarship, or at their own expense are studying at Tianjin University. The Foundation Program is designed for beginners who plan to study science or engineering to have a systematic study of general Chinese, technical Chinese, basic mathematics, physics and chemistry. After accomplishing the courses with qualified academic performance and reaching the entry threshold of Chinese higher education institutions, students can master basic knowledge of Chinese language（HSK4）, and a certain amount of specialty vocabulary and knowledge, which help them to proceed to the degree programs in various disciplines in Tianjin University or other higher education institutions.

II. Course Setting

Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese character, Oral Chinese, Technical Chinese, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry

The 1st semester is the Chinese strengthening stage, 28 class hours a week; in the 2nd semester, on the basis of Chinese strengthening, the students also study such courses as math, physics and chemistry, 33 class hours a week.

A complete curriculum system with substantial content and specific purposes has been formed for science and engineering beginners. It offers class of small group teaching. Students can choose elementary or intermediate courses with great flexibility in accordance with their Chinese language proficiency. Tutorship is also provided after class. Students will develop an integrated ability in language learning, specialty knowledge, cultural communication and adaptability within a limited and specified time period, which helps them lay a solid foundation for their further study in Chinese top universities.

1. Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants must:

Be a high school degree holder over the age of 18 and under the age of 35.

1. High school diploma (original and notarized copies). The certificates which are not in English or Chinese version should be translated into English or Chinese version and also be notarized;

2. Notarized copy of transcript of all the courses in high school. The transcripts which are not in English or Chinese version should be translated into English or Chinese version and also be notarized;

3. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to have medical examination as the medical results have a 6-month validity;

4. Photocopy of passport (valid ordinary passports);

5. Certificate of Non-Criminal Record.
