Getting started
A. Academic Enrollment and Registration
All students entering ECNU are required to register in person.
Language students, degree students and visiting students should register at the School of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (Bldg.30 on campus map).

Items you should bring to registration:
1) Admission Notice
2) Visa Application for Study in China (JW202 or JW201)
3) Your current passport and copies of the front page and the visa page.
4) Two passport-sized photographs (signed your name in Chinese and English and your ID number on back)
5) One copy of the Registration Form of Temporary Residence
6) All the original copies of your physical examinations
7) Payment of tuition fees (self-financed student)

B. Accommodation
How can I find a place to live?
International students may choose to live on campus or off-campus.
If you plan to live on campus, you should contact the International Students Dormitory management for reservation.
Private-sector accommodation can be found through newspaper advertisements, real estate agents, commercial agents, and other advertisements.

How much will my accommodation cost?  
1.Accommodation on campus (for long-term students)
Double room  RMB 40/ Day/Person (public bath room; air-con; phone; television and free internet access)
Single room  RMB 80/Day/Room (public bath room; air-con; phone; television and free internet access )
Standard single room RMB 145/Day/Room (private bath room; air-con; phone; television and free internet access)
Note: The accommodation fees of the above dormitories are paid by semester and will not be refunded if you leave during the semester.


2.Private flats
According to different facilities, conditions and services, the cost ranges between ¥1200-¥3000 per month ( near university).


C. The Physical Examination
International students who intend to study in China for 6 months or more must go through a physical check-up.

If you will only be studying in China for 6 months or less, you can apply for a F visa (Visiting visa) and won't need the physical examination. If you plan to study for more than 6 months, you will need a Physical Examination Record in order to extend your visa.

If you enter China with a X visa or L visa, you must take the physical examination in order to extend your visa.
If you wish, you can simply have the physical examination process completed in China (at your own expense).
At the beginning of each semester, the Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center offers services to conduct physical examinations for new international students on campus.

Documents required for Physical Examination in Shanghai
1) Current and copy of your passport
2) Student Card or Admission Notice from the University
3) Four passport-sized photographs
4) Examination fee ¥600 (¥100 for the cost of notarizing the original record form of Physical Examination)
5) If you intend to have the Physical Examination Record Results delivered back by express mail, the cost is ¥40

Please bring all the original copies of your physical examinations if you have had health check-up in your own country.

To reiterate, the Physical Examination Form is one of the documents that is necessary for residence permit application in China. Students MUST bring the original documents when they come to China, or go through the entire process after arrival.
