School of Management


Overview

The School of Management was formed in July 2001 and plays a vital role in Beijing Normal University’s goal to become one of the best universities in China.

The School of Management has three academic departments: the Department of Information Technology and Management, the Department of System Science, and the Department of Public Management. The school has five doctoral programs, twelve master programs and four undergraduate programs. In addition, the school has a Master of Public Administration (MPA) education and training degree.
Currently, there are more than 60 faculties and over 800 full-time students at the School of Management. In addition to its solid teaching and research background, the School of Management is responsible for more than 60 on-going re-search projects including the National Natural Science and Social Science Foundation of China. These funds have raised more than 5 million yuan.

International Exchange

Since established, the School of Management has actively conducted various communication activities on an international level.? It has made academic and collaborative ties with America, France, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Current projects include BNU-Australia cooperative Masterstr-aining program and BNU-Hong Kong Masters cooperative training program.
Every year more than ten professors go abroad for academic visits and further study and nearly thirty more participate in different kinds of international conferences. Meanwhile, our school frequently invites famous experts from home and abroad, officials, and entrepreneurs to give lectures at BNU successfully enhancing and broadening communications between BNU and the world.

Teaching

The School of Management strongly believes in teaching from its establishment. Seminars on innovative teaching techniques and disciplinary guidelines are regularly held to optimize training curriculums. This system of collective preparation and teaching evaluations contributes to the high quality of our teaching staff.
Our use of effective impetus methods and reasonable evaluation help our teachers prepare valuable lessons for our undergraduates. One example is our Youth Basic Teaching contest which provides a forum for young teachers to share their teaching experiences as well as exchange instruction techniques and ideas.

Five-Year Plan

Our 5-year development plan introduces a system that will allow the School of Management to quickly establish itself as one of the world’s renowned academic institutions.The plan focuses on enhancing the school’s academic research, personnel training, management consulting and intellectual output especially in the areas of public management, system science and information management.

Organizations

There are several teaching institutions including the Department of Public Management and the Department of Information Management and Systems Science. There are two preparatory departments: the Department of Land Resource Management and the Department of Management Science and engineering. We also have many resource centers such as the MPA educational center, research centers about Chinese entrepreneur qualities, performance evaluation of public sections and real estate and our own library, computer lab, and conference room.

MPA Education

Our university is one of the first trial units authorized to hold MPA education by the National Academic Degree Committee. Since established, the School of Management combines education with social requirements, faculty construction, disciplinary construction of public management and strategic transition of the school.It is dedicated to provide higher quality public management students for all levels of government employment and for all kinds of public organizations. MPA education attaches great importance to placing the same weight on theory and practice, knowledge and ability. It focuses not only on elevating the theoretical research level of MPA graduates,but also on their practical ability. Under the guidance of professors, graduates participating in various activities such as case analysis, group discussion, real-life investigation, lectures, will find that their theoretical cultivation,oper-ational skills, innovation and collaborative spirits enhanced.
