Introduction of school

   Founded in 1948, JilinAgriculturalUniversity(hereinafter referred to as JLAU) is one of the key provincial universities, one of the earliest universities inChinato be granted the authority to confer bachelors’ and masters’ degrees and one of the first universities to be authorized to confer doctoral degrees. In 2011, JLAU became the university co-constructed by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Jilin Provincial Government, and succeeded in the approval of National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western andCentral China. With its long history of education and profound cultural background, after 67-year construction and development, JLAU has become a multi-subject comprehensive agricultural universities with its focus on advantageous agricultural disciplines, which is an irreplaceable and important base for talent-cultivating and scientific innovation for provincial agricultural and rural development.


   JLAU covers an area of 1,400 hectares, the campus area is 319.02 hectares, and the total building area is 802,000 square meters. The total fixed assets are over 2.2 billion worth of RMB. The library has more than 2,466,800 volumes of books. The allocation of teaching and researching resources is rational.


At the university, there are now 18,000 full—time students and 9,000 part—time students. JLAU has a teaching staff of 1,838, among whom 1,179 are full—time teachers, 803 are professionals with high—level technical titles, which formed well—balanced, excellent—quality, vigorous and high—level teaching faculty, with the representative of Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Membership of the Discipline Assessment Group of State Council, Yangtze River Scholar, the Thousand Talents Plan, Ten—thousand Talents Plan, Outstanding Contribution to Middle-aged and Young Experts at the National Level and National Excellent Teachers.


   JLAU presently comprises of 1 postgraduate school, 15 schools and 2 teaching and research departments. JLAU has 7 stations for post-doctoral research, 21 doctoral disciplines, 78 master’s disciplines, 1 ministerial-level and 13 provincial-level key disciplines, 59 bachelor's disciplines, 7 National Characteristic Specialties, 13 Provincial Characteristic Specialties and 9 Provincial Brand Specialties. Currently JLAU has 1 national-level scientific platform, 9 ministerial-level scientific platforms, 47 provincial & city level platforms, 1 international and 3 school-enterprise cooperation platforms and 373 off- and on-campus practical teaching bases. In the education practices of recent years, the university has delivered a large number of excellent talents to the whole society, which has sprung up many outstanding alumni of grass—root, self—employment and serving agriculture and countryside. They have do the important contributions to the national and local economy construction and social development.


Relying on the strong discipline strength and advantageous teaching and research resources, JLAU insists on the university-running concept of “Taking serving local economic and social development as its mission”, and upholds the motto of “understanding morality, seeking knowledge, simple, unadorned credibility and integrity”. Taking the intrinsic development as the core task, JLAU vigorously advances the educational teaching reform to improve teaching quality and students’ comprehensive quality, exploring the modes of “three levels, three combinations and five platforms” and “Bases + Platforms” to cultivate interdisciplinary and innovative talents featured by their solid foundation, strong ability and high quality. In 2001 and 2007, JLAU was evaluated by the Chinese Ministry of Education, which gave it the title of Excellent respectively. During the twelfth Five—Year Plan, the comprehensive quality of students has been promoted rapidly, which thousands of awards in international, national and provincial level have been obtained in different disciplines. JLAU insists on the principle of “serving the local economic and social development”, offering scientific and educational service with “thesis written on thelandofJilinprovince”. Since the implementation of the twelfth Five—Year Plan, 1,944 research projects have been undertaken by JLAU, the total research funds of which reach 709 million RMB. 129 scientific awards above the provincial and national level have been achieved. The quantity and quality of scientific research achievements have been mounted on the top list among other provincial universities. JLAU has formed some typical scientific cooperative models, such as ‘Antu Model’ between JLAU and Antu County Government, ‘Minle Model’ between JLAU and Minle Village, ‘Borui Model’ between JLAU and Changchun Borui Feed Co. Ltd, ‘Zambian Model’ between JLAU and University of Zambia. JLAU has trained nearly 2 million technicians and farmers, the increased technical income of which has been reached to 15 billion RMB.


   JLAU has implemented the strategy of opening-up and unceasingly broadened educational dimensions, and set up bilateral exchange and cooperation relationship with 58 universities and research institutes abroad, such as the U.S, Canada, UK, Italy, Russian, Japan, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, Zambia, etc. JLAU fully introduces the foreign intellectual resources and has taken an active part in sending the young teachers to develop international scientific cooperation. One joint degree program has been approved. JLAU develops the international students education actively, which became eligible to receive the China Scholarship,China—EU Credits Students Scholarship and Jilin Provincial Government Scholarship. As one of the earliest provincial universities to carry out Chinese Foreign—Aid Programs, since the twelfth Five—Year Plan, there have been 393 senior officials and technicians from 71 developing countries to our university to receive one month professional training. On behalf of Chinese Government, our university constructed one of the firstChina—Aid Programs—AgriculturalTechnologyDemonstrationCenterinZambia, which has been known as ‘South-South Cooperation Model’, and gained great attention by the society.


   Over the years, the graduate employment rate of our university has taken the lead in Jilin Provincial higher institutions, which has got the Graduate Employment Model Unit of Jilin Provincial Higher Institutions for three times successively. In 2012, the university was authorized the title of The University with Typical Experience in Graduates’ Employment by the Ministry of Education,China. In addition, the university has also won the honors, such as Model Teaching Affairs Office of National Higher Institutions, Model Units of National Spark Program, Anti—Poverty by Scientific Research, Special Commissioners in Science & Technology, Logistics, National 54 Red Flag Youth Corps Committee, National Model Unit of PE, Training Base of National Modern Agricultural Techniques, Excellent Team of National Sci-tech Plan Implementation, Advanced Team of Higher Institutions in Sci—tech Administration by Chinese Ministry of Education, Model Unit by National Association of Science & Technology, etc. Our university has won the National Model Unit of Social Practice Activities of University Students 18 times.


   Since the implementation of the thirteenth Five—Year Plan, JLAU will follow the law of the higher education development, initiatively adapt to the new normal economic and social development, actively promote the development of intrinsic, featured, innovative, open and coordinated development, comprehensively strengthen the running—university ability and core competitiveness, in order to fasten the speed of constructing high—level teaching—research agricultural university, improve the functions of intellectuals training, scientific research, social service and cultural heritage and innovation. Our university will do greater contributions to local and national economic and social development, making the new chapter of JLAU on the Chinese Dream of Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.
