About ECJTU

East China Jiaotong University（ECJTU） is an education and research university focusing on engineering and technology. It is located in the heroic city of Nanchang, which has enjoyed a reputation for being richly endowed with natural resources and talents since ancient times. In 1971, the State Council, Central Military Commission approved to combine the School of Locomotive of Shanghai Jiaotong University with the School of Railway Engineering of Tongji University to become Shanghai Railway Institute and it was moved to Jiangxi Province, renamed as East China Jiaotong University and had been affiliated to the Railway Ministry of China . In March of 2000, ECJTU was reformed to be co-sponsored by both central and provincial governments(mainly by the local government). It is listed as a key university entitled to the funding support from the government. It is also an organization being constructed for PHD degree program.

Now the campuses cover an area of 3,000 acres, surrounded by pretty lakes, green hills and elegant sceneries. ECJTU is recognized as one of the "Best National 300 Forestation Unit" and a garden-like university. Its all types of buildings total over 0.7 million square meters, and the school is fertilized by teaching facilities and research equipments worth 1.65 billion RMB. It provides first-class learning conditions and well-equipped laboratories. The library has a collection of 2.6 million copies of books and documentations; Its digital library construction is also at the top among the universities in Jiangxi Province.

The university offers a wide range of specialties, including 7 major disciplines as science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, education, etc. The university supports 16 schools, offering 56undergraduate programs, 97 postgraduate programs ( 17 first-class master programs and 81second--class master programs), 5 provincial leading master programs, 13 provincial key disciplines, 12 authorized fields for master of engineering. And ECJTU is officially permitted to award master degree to college faculties. It is also approved to conduct MBA program by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. ECJTU has 1 Engineering Center and 1 key laboratory of Ministry of Education, 2 provincial key laboratories, 1 provincial college key laboratory, 2 key humanities and social sciences research bases. The "Railway Environmental Vibration and Noise Engineering Center" has been authorized by the state Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security as post-doctoral research unit. ECJTU is assigned as a university in which excellent undergraduates can have the opportunity to carry on postgraduate study directly.

At present, ECJTU has more than 20,000 registered students, 1600 staff and faculty members, including more than 460 professors and associate professors. It also possesses 70 faculties who have been nominated to the state’s "Thousands of Talents Project", "Top Talents of Provincial Science and Technology ", "National Unique Teachers", "Middle--young Aged Academic Leaders". ECJTU also has 40 experts who enjoy special government subsidies.

In recent years, ECJTU continues to increase research capacity to undertake more than 3,000 scientific research projects at all levels. Among them, there are over 60 at national levels, 6 of state “863”, “973” projects, 1 key international cooperation project of Ministry of Science and Technology as well as 2 projects from international bid. There are also more than 400 provincial and ministerial research projects; ECJTU has won a 1st prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, and another 40 scientific research awards in provincial level or above; We have published more than 3600 papers in academic journals, 500 of which being retrieval by SCI, EI, ISTP; We’ve also engaged 17 national patents and published 200 books and works.

ECJTU takes an active part in international exchange and cooperation. It has established a comprehensive, multi-level cooperation with nearly 30 oversea universities such as, Ball State University, Northern Arizona University, Marshall University, Troy University, University of Wales Swansea, University of Greenwich, Canadian University of New Brunswick, Australian Swinburne University of Technology, Germany Clausthal Industry University, Japan Kyushu University, National Irkutsk Transportation University of Russia, Asia University of Korea, Italian Rome First University and the Second University, Indian Vellore University.

In 2004, ECJTU began to admit National Defense students for Nanjing military area. For many years, ECJTU has enrolled its freshmen from most parts of China. Many of them have reached much higher entrance level than the normal one, which lay strong foundation for their future development. ECJTU has got permission of recruiting students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas. In recent years, the employment for our students has ranked at top among the local universities.

ECJTU pays great concern to physical and sports education, our woman team won the first in the National Championship. And also we got the first prize in man and woman competition; Ms Bai Xue, one of our alumni obtained the champion for woman’s marathon championships in World Athletics. Our basketball teams have represented Jiangxi to attend CUBA for many times.

The program for National Defense Students has achieved high recognition by Central Military Commission. And its training program experience has been promoted by Ministry of Education and General Political Department to other colleges. Our Student Counseling Centre adopts the strategy of “multi-aspects and mutual-assistance” for heath education to students and has been honored as an advanced unit of the National Mental Health Education. We have the earliest implementation of the "Campus 110" as a platform for campus security system in the province. ECJTU has also been continuously awarded as well-organized university for social security system management.

ECJTU stands for good social reputation. Its high qualified students have ensured a foundation for talents cultivation. The employment rate of our graduates has been ranking the first in Jiangxi for many years; It also got the honor to be the provincial best institute for college graduates employment in 2009. ECJTU is still on the way of searching for development and exploring for more creativity.
