School of Physics and Electronic Information Technology

School of Physics and Electronic Information Technology, whose predecessor is the Department of Physics and Chemistry of the National Southwestern Associated University of China formed in 1938, is one of the earliest established schools in Yunnan Normal University. It is a multi-disciplinary, multi-specialty and multi-level running science faculty with strong education and research strength. At present, the School has 76 school members including 14 full professors, 31 associate professors or other vice-senior titles. Among all school members, 31 have Ph.D Degree and 26 have Master’s Degree. It has 4 Ph.D Candidate Supervisors, 34 Master Candidate Supervisors, 1 National Excellent Teacher, 1 State Council Special Allowance receiver,2 Experts with Prominent Contribution in Yunnan province of China, 6 Young and Middle-aged Academic Leaders of Yunnan Province and 2 Teaching and Scientific Research Leaders of Yunnan Provincial Universities.

The School consists of the Physics Experimental Teaching Center, the Electronic Information Technology Experimental Teaching Center and three departments: the Department of Physics, the Department of Electronic and Information and the Department of Teacher-education. It has three normal specialties (Physics, Applied Physics and Applied Electronic Technology Education) and one non-normal specialty: Electronic Information Science and Technology. Now there are more than 1100 undergraduates in the School. It has already established three First-class disciplines (Physics, Astronomy and Optical Engineering), one master's degree station for the First-class discipline of Optical Engineering, and seven master's degree stations for Second-class disciplines of Astrophysics, Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Radio Physics, Optics, Theory of Curriculum and Teaching in Physics, and Master of Education in Physics. Now there are more than 120 graduates in the School. Also, we have established some research platforms, including Research Center of Celestial Bodies (Astronomical Observatory), Optoelectronic Information Technology Laboratory and Condensed Matter Physics and Material Laboratory.

Scientific Research

In the recent 5 years, the School of Physics and Electronic Information Technology took on 56 research projects, including National High-Tech Research and Development Program 863, 22 projects supported by the Chinese National Natural Science Foundation, 4 projects supported by the Key Project of Chinese Ministry of Education, 1 project supported by Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation, 1 project supported by the Key Project of Applied Basic Research of Yunnan Province, 2 projects supported by West Light Foundation of The Chinese Academy of Sciences and 25 projects supported by Natural Science Foundation of Yunnan Province. We have obtained 4 national invention patents and 3 utility model patents. The researchers in the School published more than 600 papers in the international or domestic academic journals, among which 200 papers are indexed by EI, SCI and ISTP. The School has been offered 2 National Teaching Award, 10 Provincial Level Teaching Awards and 16 Provincial Science and Technology Prize.
