College of Mechanical Engineering

The College of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1985. In the College there are seven research institutes, namely, the Research Institute of Modern Manufacturing Technology, Research Institute of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Research Institute of Mechanical Design, Research Institute of Vehicle Engineering, Research Institute of Refrigerating and Thermal Engineering, Research Institute of HAVC and Gas Engineering, and Research Institute of Thermal Energy and Environmental Engineering as well as the Teaching Group of Industrial Engineering, Teaching Group of Engineering Drawing, Mechanical Fundament Experiment Centre, and the Computer Laboratory.

The College has over 200 teachers, among whom there are two academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, thirty-nine full professors (twenty-seven of whom are PhD student supervisors), and sixty-nine associate professors. A number of renowned professors, scholars and experts are invited to work as guest, advisory or honorary professors in the College. There are 1,800 undergraduates, 442 Master Degree candidates, eighty-five doctoral candidates and twenty-four post-doctors in two postdoctoral mobile stations.

The College has six large-scale laboratories. In addition, it has set up the Tongji University Mechanical Institute for Environmental Sanitation of the Ministry of Construction, Tongji University International Sino-French Gas Technology Training Centre of the Ministry of Construction and Shanghai Engineering Technology Research Centre of Construction Robots. The College has made arrangements for students to do internship training in such companies as the Baoshan Steel Group Co., Shanghai Diesel Engine Co. Ltd., Pudong Gas Plant, Kailing Air Conditioning Equipment Co. and Shanghai Automobile Industry (Group) Co.
