1. Introduction to the discipline of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics

The discipline of linguistics and applied linguistics has a long history in Shanghai Normal University. SNU has made brilliant achievements on it. From the 1950s, language study in SNU has always been in the first line with the leadership of Professor Bin Zhang and other intellectuals. It started to grant M.A. degree in the late 1970s. Professor Bin Zhang started to teach Ph.D. candidates in modern Chinese grammar. In the late 1990s, with the leadership of professor Kaitai Fan and professor Huyang Qi, this discipline is authorized the qualification to grant M.A. and Ph.D. ICCS accepts the application for M.A. or Ph.D. degree in linguistics and applied linguistics. More than 200 students are currently pursuing their M.A. or Ph.D. degree in ICCS. They are from China, Korea, Japan, U.S.A., Indonesia and so on.

2. Missions

The discipline of linguistics and applied linguistics seeks the new cultivation model to conduct high-qualified graduate students. In the M.A. programs, it concordantly integrates the major study, thesis writing and teaching practice by providing more chance of internship and observation. The candidates stay closely with international students and it enhances their communication. All these contribute to the candidates' profound professional knowledge and abundant practical experience.

4. Enrollment
M.A. degree program accepts application before May 15th.
The entrance examination is in mid-June.
