Education and Achievements

The university began to enroll undergraduate students starting in 1958. Then, in 1980, graduate courses were offered to the young minds. The university offers 44 highly ranked master programs. It also offers 56 undergraduate programs. The university has the authority to waive the graduate student's entrance examination for its top students.

The university is qualified to recruit MBA students. Every year the university enrolls many students from outside the China mainland, which creates a diverse student body.

Now it proudly possesses a post–doctoral scientific research lab, two national engineering research centers, as well as a national quality supervision and inspection center for non-ferrous metals.  The university owns 6 state of the art research facilities. Nearly 40,000 students are enrolled in the university’s 12 faculties and 18 scientific research institutes.

The university management gives the highest priority to all matters related to teaching. The highest quality of instruction has been fully guaranteed in this university. The school enforces a strict teaching evaluation system to meet the needs of teachers and students. The university owns 300 million RMB worth of teaching facilities. This includes 8 teaching demonstration centers, 25 experimental labs and nearly 100 training bases. The modernized library is equipped with electronic reading rooms and houses more than 2 million volumes.

It takes the lead in “3+1” innovative education method. This means that each student spends three years in the class room and one year working in their chosen field. This improves student’s depth of knowledge and helps to create well rounded students.

The students have won many prominent awards in national competitions such as Robotics, Mathematics, English speech competitions, Architectural Design and so on. 

In the National Robotics Contest, the students have been twice ranked in the top 8. The students won first prize in the National Electronic Design Competition and Mechanical Innovation Design Competition.

Three students were selected into the National Rock Climbing Team and broke the world’s record several times. These students won 5 gold medals and 4 silver medals in national rock climbing events. In 2008 the cheerleading squad won the national championship in the Beijing Olympic Cheerleading Aerobics Contest.

The nonferrous metals and the iron & steel industries are our national backbone industries, which occupy a significant strategic position in the national economy. The university actively supports these two industries by contributing innovative minds.

The university is dedicated to the development of the National Nonferrous Metal Industry, the Iron and Steel Industries and the local economy.

 It has already built up a set of highly competitive programs, which include Mine Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Engineering, Electromechanical Integration, Information Technology and Economic Management. These programs have formed three areas of expertise, comprehensive exploration and application of tungsten, copper and rare-earth resources. In recent years, the university has performed extensive research in over 1800 scientific projects in a wide range of fields, with a science budget of over 300 million RMB. The university has won over 70 national and provincial prizes. Its scientific and technological services extend beyond China’s borders. More than 500 of the university’s scientific achievements have been applied, which have brought 5 million RMB profit to the society.

The university is future oriented and eager to extend its academic influence abroad. It has established close co-operations with more than 40 educational institutions from over 20 countries, such as the USA, the UK, France, Russia, Japan, Thailand, New Zealand and so on. It has actively carried out international exchange in high-level faculty training and scientific cooperation. In particular, it has been working closely with Prince of Songkla University (PSU) for over a decade. Jiangxi University of Science and Technology and Prince of Songkla University have been conducting frequent exchanges between faculty and students and is on the way to beginning a jointly organized PhD program. The university has carried out over 10 international science and technology projects with Indonesia, Iceland, Vietnam, New Zealand, Germany, and Japan.
