School Of Medicine

School of Medicine, Henan University was established in 2001. Currently it has 115 of faculty and staff, including 25 professors, 35 associate professors, 1 academician recruited by 2 institutions,1 Special Professor of Climbing Program Henan University, 1 Yellow River Scholar and 1 Expert Sponsored by Governmental Subsidy. 60 of teaching employees have doctor and master degrees. Tumor immunity group was honored as the Henan Provincial Team with Scientific and Technical Creativity. Teams of two programs including immunology were named as excellent groups. Speciality created for students are clinical medicine with education of 5 years(bachelor) and 7 years (bachelor and master in a row), and dental medicine with 5 years of education. Both basic and clinical subjects of medicine were authorized to grant master degrees as primary disciplines. Immunology and Pathology-pathophysiology are all Henan Provincial Key Disciplines.

SOM now has one Henan Provincial Key Laboratory---Laboratory for Natural Medicine and Immune Engineering, one Henan Provincial Key Laboratory of Medicine---Laboratory for Cellular and Molecular Immunology, and 3 university institutes. 14 programs funded by Natural Science Foundation of China and National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) and more than 30 projects sponsored by provincial foundations(including Henan Provincial Creative Funds for Excellent Talents) were undertaken in SOM. Academic exchange and cooperation were actively preformed between SOM and other institutions, such as Academy of Military Medical Sciences and University of Pennsylvania of America.

In recent 10 years since establishment, SOM paid more attention to teaching and the training of students’ overall quality, resulting in an increasing quality of undergraduates. The admission rate of graduates for undergraduates was raised yearly since the first grade of undergraduates graduated from SOM. In 2010 the rate was 57.5% which was ranked in first place in Henan University. The rate of employment for undergraduates was more than 95% on graduation. The quality of postgraduates was also remarkably improved which was demonstrated with 50% SCI high-quality papers published by the postgraduates.

The achievements belonged to the past. The future will be brighter. We will put the subject construction in the first place, emphasize on the research, focusing on the construction of teaching team and the training of students. Efforts will be made to get the authorization of doctorate in basic and clinical medicine as the primary disciplines.
