College of Animal Science and Technology

The Southwest University (FYI:In July, 2005, former Southwest Agricultural University combined with former Southwest Normal University and founded new Southwest University), College of Animal Science and Technology (CAST)is located in the south expansion area of the main campus. The College is comprised of 72 faculty members and staff and about 300 graduate students and 700 undergraduate students. There are four academic departments and Bachelor of Agriculture Majors: Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Grassland Science and Fisheries Science in the College.

Graduate students studing on Master of Science(MS), Master of Agriculture(MA) and Doctor of Philosophy degrees(Ph.D.). Seven graduate majors in Master of Agriculture  covering the fields of Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Fishery Science which includes following areas: Animal genetics and reproduction, Animal nutrition and feeds science; Grassland science; Basic Veterinary, Preventive veterinary and Clinical veterinary medicine, as well as Aquaculture and Fisheries Science which emphasizes Biotechnology of Fishes, Freshwater Aquaculture, Fishery Resources and Environment. The College has Ph.D. Programs of Aquaculture Science (with subject in Fishery Biology, Fish Reproduction Biology, Fishery Resource),Animal Genetics and Breeding, ,Animal Nutrition and Feeds Science, and Animal Physiology.
