College of Chinese Language and Literature


School of Literature of Southwest University grew out of the Chinese Language Department of Southwest China Normal University. In Oct. 1950, National Woman’s Normal College merged with Sichuan Province-run Education College and into Southwest China Normal University. With the merge of the college, the Chinese Language Department of these two colleges also merged into the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. In 1952, the Chinese Language Department of Chongqing University merged into the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in Southwest China Normal University. In July.2005, Southwest China Normal University merged with Southwest Agriculture University, and established School of Literature of Southwest University after adjustment of disciplines. With the torch of learning and study passed on from one generation to another, School of Literature has developed into a school with brand specialties, which has a academic echelon with equitable structure, a strong teaching staff, and substantial achievements of research, and become a base for cultivating teaching and research talent with great influence among the School of Literature of domestic universities.

In the long-term development and construction, the school has formed a teaching and research contingent which has high academic level, and owned a group of experts and academic leaders who has influence to the academic circle at home and abroad. Now, we have 99 staff members (90 full-time teachers), 14 professors, 50 associate professors. There are 30 teachers got doctor’s degree, and teachers who have master’s qualification take 68.9% of the teaching staff. We have 6 tutors for doctor's candidate and 25 for master’s candidate, 2 winners of “New Century’s Excellent Talent Supporting Plan”, 3 Chongqing’s academic leaders,3 talents of “322 Important Talent’s Project” of Chongqing, 1 talent of “Five. A large group of young and middle-aged academic leaders and key members actively worked on the forefront of teaching and research, and they have stood out conspicuously on the academic circle at home and abroad; they have taken heavy responsibility to create new glory for our school in the new century.
