Institute of Science & Technology

The establishment of Institute of Science and Technology is an attempt in cross/interdisciplinary basic research, construction of platform for high-level international scientific research co-operation, nurturing of high-level original research achievements and construction of cross/interdisciplinary programs. It is equipped with senior researchers and advanced facilities to make great achievements in original research and national key research programs and enhance the research strength and academic status of Jiangsu University.

1.1. The main research fields:

(1) Non-linear optical and fluorescent, magnetic molecular functional materials;

(2) New multi-functional supramolecular materials;

(3) Synthesis and catalytic on morphology control of nano-materials;
(4) Low-dimensional functional materials and devices;
(5) Nano-functional materials, biological and medical functional materials and polymer and related interdisciplines.

1.2. Research centers:

There are eight research centers attached to Institute of Science & Technology.

(1)Functional Materials and Devices Research Center ( headed by Cheng Xiaonong);

(2) Micro-Nano Science and Technology Research Center (headed by Ding Jianning);

(3) Dynamics and Control Research Center (headed by Bi Qinsheng);

(4) Photon Manufacturing Science and Technology Research Center (headed by Zhou Ming);

(5) Regulation of Cell Behavior and Disease Control Research Center (headed by Chen Yongchang);

(6) Advanced Optoelectronic Molecular Functional Materials Research Center ( headed by Zhang Chi);

(7)Nerve Protection Research Center (headed by Gao Jing);

(8)Complex Fluid Dynamics and Complex Flow Research Center ( headed by Li Changfeng).

The substantive scientific research organization “Sino-Australian Advanced Functional Molecular Materials Research Center International”, approved by National Ministry of Science and Technology in 2008,is under construction.

1.3. Major achievements :

(1) The first high-level original academic paper of Jiangsu University:

Modulation of Third-Order Nonlinear Optical Properties by Backbone Modification at Polymeric Pillared-Layer Heterometallic Clusters, the research findings of a project team led by Prof .ZHANG Chi of Institute of Science, is published in Advanced Materials. The journal is the most prestigious in the field of Materials Science, its latest impact factors being 8.191. The achievement was also headlined by Science Times on 5 August, 2008.

(2) The latest research on the mechanism of neuronal damage and neuroprotective agent:

The latest research on the mechanism of neuronal damage and neuroprotective agents was made by the research team led by Professor Gao Jing from Nerve Protection Research Center of Science and Technology Institute: the research team established a cell model to simulate the process of nerve cell injury for the first time by introducing the specific inhibitor of mitochondrial electron transport chain complex I or IV : rotenone or sodium azide,  mild mitochondrial injury ,and inducing oxidative damage of nerve cells by H2O2.They also published two serial papers in the international scientific and technical journals: Neurochemistry International and  Neurochem Research.

(3) Jiangsu University’s  first key international cross/interdisciplinary scientific research cooperation platform is under construction:

At the beginning of 2008, with a view to building an international sci-tech research cooperation platform and following the latest development of the field of optoelectronic molecular functional materials, we initiated the close co-operation in the field of molecular materials chemistry and nonlinear optical with the winners of financial aid of Outstanding Youth Fund (China), and specially-appointed professors from Nanjing University, Harbin University of Technology, Zhengzhou University and six internationally renowned scholars from Australian National University and Australia Monash University, and jointly applied for Sino- Australian cooperation key projects and the approval of Advanced Functional Molecular Materials International Joint Research Center . The project is funded by People's Republic of China Ministry of Science and Technology and Australian Ministry of Innovation, Industrial and Scientific Research.  Our applications have passed the academic accreditation,budget auditing, and foreign affairs related examinations ,and only 2 of 52 applications are authorized to found “Sino-Australian Joint Research Center”.
