School of Mechanical Engineering

The School of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1958. As one of the eldest engineering schools in Jiangnan University, it originated from the major of Food Mechanism of Nanjing Institute of Technology. The school began to recruit graduates of Master’s Degree in the major of Mechanical Design & its Theory from 1986. It has graduates of Doctor's Degree in the major of Package Engineering, graduates of Master’s Degree and graduates of Engineering Master from 2002. It has earned itself a good reputation for the quality of its teaching and research activities.

The School provides three programs for bachelor's degree including Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Process Equipment and Control Engineering, Packaging Engineering, two programs for Master Degree including Mechanical Engineering ( including Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechatronics, and Automotive Engineering) and Packaging Engineering, and two programs for Doctor's Degree including Packaging Engineering, Chemical and Industrial Technology and Engineering.

The School has over 150 members of its staff, including more than 60 professors and associate professors. They carry out their teaching and research activities in 4 departments: Electromechanical Engineering Department, Packaging Engineering Department, Process Equipment and Control Engineering Department, Mechanical Base Department, and 8 research institutes: Mechatronics and Robot Institute, Modern Manufacturing Technology Institute, Surface Engineering Institute, Manufacturing Industry Informatization Institute, CAD/CAM/CAE Institute, Rapid Design and Manufacturing Institute, Bio-Chemical and Food Mechanism Institute, Modern Package Mechanics Institute.

The school has teaching and research laboratories with a floor space of more than 13000 squre meters, equipped with various advanced manufacturing, testing, computing, design and analyse facilities.

With approximately 1600 undergraduates and 200 postgraduates, the School has a lively, friendly and active atmosphere, where students coming from various provinces and districts learn freely and feel at home, and they are to be creative, good at communication and skilled at solving problems. With these qualifications, our graduates not only can develop careers as practical engineers with high qualification, but also they are continuously hired by top companies for their potential development in management, finance, consulting and other senior professional positions.

The goal of our School is to provide undergraduates and graduates with an excellent mechanical engineering education background, to conduct high quality research and to serve industrial and government agencies in Wuxi city, in China and the world as a whole.

In recent years, the School has accepted some visiting scholars and students from Russia and North Korea. Many famous professors and experts from domestic and overseas universities and companies have been invited to the School to conduct cooperations in teaching and research.
