School of Life Science and Technology


The School of Life Science and Technology, previously known as the School of Biopharmaceutics, is founded in 1994. It has experienceda rapid development in these years, and has established excellent faculty teams and a range of disciplines with specialized areas, including Microbiology and Biochemical Pharmaceutics, Marine Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Biology Informatics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biological Chemistry Engineering, etc..

Currently there are 72 faculty members, including 11 professors, 17 associate professors, 29 lecturers and 15 assistant lecturers.

Professor Min Wang is the Dean of the school. Professor Boping Ye and Changlin Zhou are the Vice Deans. Professor Xiangdong Gao is the CPC Secretary & Vice Dean.

Research Fields

Biochemical Pharmaceutics:
Biochemical Pharmaceutics was initially founded in the early 1950s by the efforts of Xizhen Liu, a famous professor of biochemistry and was reopened by Pro. Qionghua Chen as a 5-year biochemistry program in the early 60s. The discipline of bio-pharmaceutics in China was firstly set up in 1978. The first Master's degree candidate in biochemical pharmaceutics was recruited in 1981 and the first doctorate candidate in microbiology and biochemical pharmaceutics was recruited in 1993. Biochemical Pharmaceutics is the earliest established discipline to grant doctorate degree in China and is one of key disciplines in China Pharmaceutical University. This discipline includes 5 research directions: (1) Structure and function of biological macromolecule (2) Natural biochemical active substance and its related functional genomics; (3) Genetic engineering and protein project pharmaceutics; (4) Micro-gene pharmaceutics; (5) Proteomics and innovative drug design.

Microbiological pharmaceutics:
Microbiological pharmaceutics was established in the early 50s. Under the advising of the distinguished microbiology scientists Zhiben Chen and Xiaoying Chen, the antibiotic pharmaceutics discipline was set up in the early 60s. The authority for granting master degree was approved in the early 80s and doctorate candidates in microbiological pharmaceutics were firstly recruited in the late 90s. The work in this discipline is mainly focused on the fundamental and application study on pharmaceutical-related microbiology, including the research of microbiology active substance, the biological transformation of microbiology, microbiological drug and enzyme engineering.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology:
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, belonging to the Level Ⅰ discipline of biology, is a newly-flourished cut-edge subject raised in the middle of 1990' s. It now has the authority to grant master degree to qualified students. More emphasis is placed on training students to study basic theory of biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as the modern technologies. The research is mainly focused on the targeted delivery of drugs and its molecular pharmacology.

Marine pharmaceutics:
Marine pharmaceutics is the vital front edge in the development of biopharmaceutics discipline. It was approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit master and doctorate candidates in marine pharmaceutics. The research focus on the marine active substance, the marine biotechnology as well as marine pharmaceutics.

Pharmaceutical biology informatics:
Pharmaceutical biology informatics is considered as the hottest research area with the largest developing potential in the field of pharmaceutical research. Newly founded in 2001, it already has the right to grant master and doctorate degree to students. The major work lies on the structure informatics of biological macromolecule and CADD, the application of structure prediction in the R&D of innovative drugs.
