Proud of Being a Volunteer!

"It's Winter Solstice today.Outside it's cold, inside we're warmed by the volunteers. We've warmed each other over the pandemic, and let's keep warming each other in the coming Ox Year."

During the period of Covid-19, some international students took part in the volunteer job at the gate of international students dormitory, sipailou campus. After the quarantine, it was really difficult for the International Students’ Office and dormitory manager to monitor the in and out time of every student as well as providing and collecting the gate passe, so some students joined the volunteer team. Some of those students are still doing their volunteer duty and facilitating the CIS and students, let’s meet them and listen to their experience during Covid-19 pandemic!

#1Dr. Waqas from Pakistan

Volunteering is a voluntary act of an individual or group freely giving time and labor for community service. I became a part of this when the COVID-19 pandemic began. My university selected me as a volunteer, which is a great honor for me. During this period, I helped students with their daily affairs.
I feel very happy and thankful to my teachers for giving me this opportunity. It has sharpened my skills in becoming a better leader and developing a sense of pride in contributing to community and students'success.

#2Dr. Hassan from Afghanistan

In fact, this journey started due to the COVID-19 epidemic.  It was the right time to unite to fight this epidemic. With the help of the CIS office and the dormitory manager, we formed this volunteer team, so I am now a volunteer and a member of CIS management team.
At the beginning, it was strange and complicated. At that time, all the students were already under a lot of mental pressure, and the questions we asked at the door made them even more angry and stressed, but after some time when they realized that we were doing things for everyone’s safety, they started cooperating with us which makes our work easier, and now we have good results: a better environment, relaxation, happy mood and most importantly, health!

#3Mr. Taha Hussein Musa from Sudan

This volunteering duty provides us many benefits to both mental and physical health. It helps to counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety. The social contact aspect of helping and working with others can have a profound effect on our overall psychological well-being. During Covid-19 period, we enjoy this act and we are very thankful to CIS and students for cooperating with us.

#4Mr. Umer Sharif from Pakistan

This volunteering act helps us make friends, learn new skills, and even feel happier and healthier. Especially during the time of Covid-19, it helps to ease stress and anxiety and we help students in their daily affairs. Nothing relieves stress better than a meaningful connection to another person. I am very thankful to CIS and dormitory manager for giving us this opportunity!

#5Mr. Abdelazeim from Sudan

I face no difficulty in my duty during this period and I am enjoying being a volunteer. I think this act has a real and valuable positive effect on our physical and mental health. This volunteering duty helps us meet different students from different countries and make new friends.

“It is glad to see that volunteers enjoy their work very much.Thank you for your hard work at the gate! It is cold outside, hope you stay safe and together we fight against the virus!”
