Mahidol University Delegation visits CSU


On 4 June 2018, a delegation of 16 persons from Mahidol University, including Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Vice President of Mahidol University, and Piyamitr Sritara, Director of the affiliated Ramathibodi Hospital, visited CSU. Zhou Kechao, Vice President of CSU, Bai Yi, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Zhang Buxin, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Xiangya School of Medicine, Tang Siyuan, Dean of Xiangya School of Nursing, Fan Xiaohui, Vice Dean of Undergraduate School, Liu Guanglian, Vice Dean of Graduate School, Chang Shi, Deputy Director of Xiangya Hospital, Hu Guoqing, Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Public Health, Li Jiada, Vice Dean of School of Life Sciences, and Gao Dongbo, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges attended the welcoming ceremony, which was hosted by Director Bai Yi.

Vice President Zhou Kechao extended his sincere welcome to the Mahidol University delegation, on behalf of CSU and President Tian Hongqi, and briefed them on CSU’s history and status. He said that CSU stands close to mountain and river and is an ideal place for life nurturing and a hotbed for the development of medicine and life sciences. He said that he had a sincere hope forboth universities to become good friends, although it was the first meeting. Both universities sharing the same goals and strengths in various fields, he hoped that this meeting would result in opportunities for cooperation. Ms. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti expressed her sincere gratitude to CSU’s hospitality, and stated the three purposes of this visit: first, Mahidol University looks forward to engaging in cooperation and exchanges with leading universities like CSU, which has been identified as a“Project 958” university, “Project 211” university and included in the“Double First-Class” initiative; second, both universities share strengths in the disciplines of science, engineering and medicine, which will surely provide opportunities for cooperation and interdisciplinary initiatives; third,with the Chinese government’s commitment to channelingmore resources into the development of hospitals, Mahidol University hopes that both universities would join hands to develop excellent medical and nursing personnel, while providing students with a large platform for learning and adequate professional training, so as to deepen cooperation and exchanges.

After the meeting, participants from both sides exchanged gifts and took a group photo.

At 10 a.m., the delegation visited the Third Xiangya Hospital and Xiangya School of Nursing. Zhu Shaihong, Vice Dean of Third Xiangya Hospital and Professor Zeng Hui, Director of Training Center for Xiangya School of Nursing, received the visiting guests.

Vice Dean Zhu Shaihong said that both hospitals are national public hospitals, and that the Third Xiangya Hospital is more than happy to work with Mahidol University tofollow the trend of the times, and contribute to the building of the“Health Silk Road”. At the end of the meeting, both sides reached an initial consensus on the exchanges of teachers and students as well as cooperation in the areas of robotic surgery, heterogenic transplantation and clinical pharmacology.

During the exchange between Mahidol University and Xiangya School of Nursing, Associate Professor Guo Jia briefed the delegation on its history, development and status on behalf of the leadership. Leaders and professors from Mahidol University commended the honors and achievements of Xiangya School of Nursing. Both sides further explored possible opportunities for cooperation in the fields of scientific research, teaching and joint training in a friendly atmosphere.

In the afternoon, the delegation paid a visit to Xiangya Hospital where they were warmly received by and held talks with Professor Zhang Xin, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Xiangya Hospital, and other relevant persons. Vice President Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti said that this visit is mainly aimed to seek opportunities for cooperation with Xiangya Hospital in the fields of the integration of traditional Chinese and western medicine, neuroscience, nursing personnel training and scientific research. After the meeting, the delegation visited the clinics and wards of the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine as well as Ward 36 of the Department of Neurosurgery. The delegation was very interested in relevant devices and equipment used in the acupuncture practice of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the stereotactic surgery of the Department of Neurosurgery, and had an in-depth exchange of views with the Chinese side on cooperation in relevant disciplines.
