Chinese Alumni Network recently released the latest evaluation of Chinese universities. Nine universities, including Wuhan University, entered  the top 500 in three separate World University Rankings for 2014. These nine universities are known as the highest ranked Chinese universities in the world (known as G9 group)".

The world's three largest ranking authorities refer to Times Higher Education, QS, and US News which are the world’s most prestigious and most influential authorities in terms of university assessments. In the top 500 world university rankings which they released for 2014, the Chinese mainland had 30 universities on the list, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China and Sun Yat-sen University. These 9 universities entered top 500 according to all three ranking systems.

Wuhan University is among the top 400 according to the three separate ranking systems. It ranks 301st in the US News,  335th in the QS  and 352nd for the Times Higher Education. .

Cai Yanhou, chief academic expert from Chinese Alumni Network university research team, and professor at the Central South China University said  these 9 universities are China’s first-class research universities which are also of significant international influence in China and that's why they merit the name: G9 group. At the same time, he emphasized that we should not only copy the assessment ways of the foreign universities, but also strives to create an evaluation system with Chinese characteristics to fully demonstrate the proper status of Chinese universities in the world.
