School of Medicine and Health Management

The School of Medicine and Health Management at HUST was established in 2001, the first school of medicine and health management combining teaching, scientific research, training and consultation together in China.

There are two majors in the School: Public Affairs Management (Health Management) and Information Management & Information System (Health and Medical Information). In 1995, Social Medicine and Health Management Master-degree Program was established and in 2003 Doctor-degree was also established. Since establishment, the School has made great strides. Social Medicine and Health Management was estimated as A++continuously from 2005-2007, which also ranked the second all around China.

There are 53 teachers in the School in total including full-time and part-time together, among whom, there are 10 professors, 13 associate professors, 16 part-time professors, 10 full-time and part-time doctorial supervisors and 21 master tutors.

The School enjoys high scientific research power. It has shouldered more than 180 programs and projects from National Nature Science Fund, National Social Science Fund and about 2.4 million RMB (about＄0.35 million)for scientific research. In 2008, four research centers (Basic Medical Insurance Center, Rural Health Development Center, Hospital Management and Development Center as well as Health Information Resource Center) were established with the aim of forming unique strength and features and carrying out increasing valuable scientific researches in the field of health management.

With the deepening of Medical and Health System Reform, more and more universities, colleges and research institutions began to join in the field of health policy and management. Under this circumstance, the School will hold high the great banner of “Morality Cultivating, Course Promoting and Forever Striving” to build a new stage to create new prosperity.
