College of International Exchange

As a newly established college of Yanshan University, the College of International Exchange (CIE) is responsible for the management of joint Sino-foreign programs, the recruitment and training of Chinese students who are interested in studying abroad, the enrollment and daily administration of international students and their Chinese language and culture courses, the promotion of Chinese language and culture, as well as the administration of scholarship affairs. The college now enlists a team of more than ten full-time Chinese-as-a-foreign-language teachers and about 20 part-time teachers, who take on their teaching and research with a combination of both the experience of seniority and the dynamics of youth.

In the year of 2009, CIE recruited about 300 students from Korea, Japan, Russia, USA, Italy, Mongolia, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, etc., to study on either a long- or short-term basis. Among them, 21 students registered in undergraduate programs in other colleges. Starting from 2009, Yanshan University began to accept foreign students to study for both master and doctoral degrees. Both the increase of the number of international students on campus and the upgrading of our programs represent the expedited pace of the internationalization of Yanshan University.

In August 2007, with the enrollment of 21 American learners of Chinese, Yanshan University Toledo College was officially opened at our 25-year sister university, the University of Toledo (UT), Ohio, USA. While this represents a new horizon, a new starting-point, and a new perspective of Yanshan University’s foreign collaboration, the official opening of the Confucius Institute at UT in December 2009 marks another milestone in both the friendship between YSU and UT and the globalization of YSU.

The CIE and the Division of International Cooperation (DIC) run as two separate university divisions but are administrated by the same team of staff, with the Director of the DIC acting as the Dean of CIE.
