School of Information Management


The School of Information Management of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was based on the original Information Management Department of the School of Information Science & Technology SYSU, and came into existence in Feb 2005.

At present, the school is comprised of three majors of undergraduate: the Information Management and Information System, the Library Science, the Archivistics Science, and three master's points: the Library Science , the Information Science and the Archivistics Science . Now, there are 891 full-time students in the school, including 787 undergraduate students and 104 postgraduate students.

The School of Information Management commits itself to cultivating information management professionals who obtain skilled information techniques and numerous information management skills, and have a vast influence home and abroad. The School has a highly qualified faculty of 37 members, of whom 6 are full professors, including 3 advisors for the PH.D. Candidates, and 15 are associate professors; some of them are famous scholars well-known both home and broad. In addition, the school has also invited a number of famous economists, management specialists and entrepreneurs as Honorary or Advisory Professors to give some lectures.

Up until now, The school has established an integrated system of subjects which covers Library Science, Information Science and Archivistics Science, it has cultivated a large number of undergraduates and postgraduates for Master’s Degrees who later became professionals, even famous scholars; such as Mr. Hui DeYi : the curator of the Library of Guangzhou City; Ms Yu QinRong: the former curator of the Library of University of GuangZhou; Mr. Lin Ming: the associate curator of the Library of Sun Yat-Sen University; Ms. Deng MeiLian: the curator of the Central Library of Macau; Ms Xiao YongYing: PhD on Library and Information Science, Queen’s University of Belfast, U.K; Mr. Xu LiangJie: PhD on Library and Information Science, University of California, Berkeley, US; Ms WenHui Xu Wallace: PhD on Library and Information Science , Humboldt-University, Berlin, Germany; Ms Huang XiaoLi: PhD under education on Library and Information Science, University of Maryland,US; Ms Zhang Yin: PhD under education on Library and Information Science, Rutgers University, US, and many more.

With its eye on the 21 century, the School of Information Management has set down century-striding develop programs expanding educate innovation、transforming scientific research mechanisms and actualizing comprehensive development tactic. All the programs have one aim: establishing a top-ranking investigating college.
