SIE Successfully Holds 2017 Graduation of International Students


On June 27th, the 2017 graduation ceremony of the School of International Education in SCUT was successfully held in the concert hall of SCUT’s University Town Campus. Dean An Ran, Deputy Deans, SIE staff, as well as outstanding representatives of those who supervise the international students were all in attendance at the ceremony. The ceremony was emceed by Deputy Dean Yang Haosong. One hundred and seventy eight international students received their freshly printed diplomas and said farewell to their alma mater. Students along with their parents, almost six hundred people altogether, witnessed one of the most crucial moments of the graduates’ lives.

 

Dean An Ran began by givinga short speech. She gave hearty congratulations to the graduates, expressed a warm welcome to the parents and thanked all the teachers. She concluded her speech with some final words for the graduates. The first to be grateful  from the heart, the second being the hope that they will keep sharing their wonderful stories of China with their family and friends back home and lastly to keep learning with the changing world! "SCUT will always be your home, we will miss you when you leave. You are always welcome to come back!" Dean An Ran said affectionately.

 

Dean An Ran, Deputy Dean Liu Cheng and Hu Yongjian awarded a diploma to each graduate and bestowed on them their heartiest congratulations. SIE also presented awards to commend outstanding supervisors and students. Three doctoral students received an Academic Achievement Award, six gradutates received an Outstanding Graduate Award and five supervisors received an Excellent Supervisor Award. After the awarding session, graduates presented gifts to memorialize the gratitude that had for SCUT.

In order to promote the intercourse of international student alumni and SCUT, SIE created an International Alumni Association in 2011. This year, SIE selected ten graduates to serve as alumni liaisons. "The teachers here are very responsible, and I made a lot of friends here", one of the 2017 International Alumni Liaisons said, "I am going back to my home country, but I will never forget China and SCUT."
