School of Journalism and Communication (JC) was established in July, 2004. At present, there are 56 staffs, among them, 44 teachers, 11 full professors, 16 associate professors, 20 doctors (including 1 European doctor), 2 consultant professors (one is Yang Weiguang, the former administrator of CCTV; another is James Lengel, Dean of Benjamin Institute of Technology USA. ), 1 honorary professor (Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess of Thailand), 1 lecture professor of "Young and Middle-Aged Experts Nationally Acknowledged for Their Outstanding Achievements" (Chen Guoming, Professor of University of Rhode Island), and 28 part-time professors. In resent 3 years, JC has invested 8.68 million Yuan (RMB) to construct laboratories and reference rooms, occupying space of 3,063 square meters, as well as 200 square meters TV live Room and one affiliated building.  
 
JC has 3 departments and 2 centers, namely the Department of Journalism and Communication, the Department of Culture Media, the Department of Brand Media, as well as Teaching and Experimental Center, and Humanity Education Center. It offers both 3 bachelor programs, and 4 master programs. There are 868 undergraduates and 100 candidates working for master degree. It is also responsible for teaching and management of the series of humanity courses of SCUT. It possesses 1 excellent teacher, and 2 top-ranking courses of SCUT.
 
JC has successfully held many magnificent activities, such as “South Media Summit Forum” twice; “South China Brands Advanced Forum” three times; The 11th Anniversary on Movie of Chinese University and Colleges, the 4th China Movie Advanced Forum, and Association Award, as well as the 1st “Academy Award” of Chinese Movie, etc. which form the solid relationship between Party's Central Committee and mass media branches of Guangdong province. It also held many series of academic activities like “Series Lectures on Chiefs of South Media” and “Researching and Awarding South News on People’s Livelihood”. JC cooperates with 21 mass media and enterprises, establishing the “Innovative Practice and Working Internship Bases for University Students”.
 
Staffs of JC have obtained 44 researching projects, among them, 1 national project, and 8 provincial projects (including 2 teaching and researching projects).In 2005 and 2006, 131 researching papers, 35 teaching and researching papers, 19 monographs and 18 electronic teaching materials have been published by JC.
