6th International Conference on World-Class Universities Takes Place in Shanghai

The Center for World-Class Universities is pleased to announce that the 6th International Conference on World-Class Universities (WCU-6) will take place through 1 to 4 November 2015 in Shanghai, China. It is the 10th anniversary of the conference series. The theme for WCU-6 is Matching Visibility and Performance: A Standing Challenge for World-Class Universities.
World-Class Universities, commonly recognized as global research universities or flagship universities, are essential in developing a nation’s competitiveness in the global knowledge economy. The development of world-class universities is high on the policy agenda of various stakeholders across the globe in the past decades. A range of development strategies have been adopted and various reforms have been implemented in an increasing number of nations, regions and higher education institutions in both developed and developing countries. Such a “world-class” movement has also been intensified by the proliferation of international league tables.
It was in this context that the Graduate School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University initiated the biennial International Conference on World-Class Universities in 2005. The conferences provide a platform for global leaders, senior universities administrators, leading scholars and policy researchers worldwide to discuss various issues related to world-class universities. Contributions to the previous WCU conferences are published as books (previous conference publications) and are indexed in Conference Proceedings Citation Index – Social Science and Humanities (CPCI-SSH) by the Web of Science.
