Summer Course for Advanced Business Chinese (5 weeks)

1) What it is and who it is for

In order to help foreign students master the essentials of Business Chinese, and improve their ability to use it, we have started our Chinese for Business advanced level course. The course is aimed at students who have already the intermediate level of Chinese, and who are now interested in focusing on business-related Chinese. Students should have already mastered basic Chinese grammatical constructions and expressions; an understanding of over 4,000 Chinese words and a working vocabulary of over 2,000 words; intermediate speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities, and the ability to use Chinese in everyday life; students should generally be at HSK level 6 standard.

2)  Teaching aims and teaching methods

Through 100 teaching hours spread over 5 weeks, students should gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of business-related Chinese, and be able to use it with relative ease in business-related activities and situations.

The course is focused on classroom-based learning, and is complemented by multimedia tools (videos, recordings etc) as well as the use of relevant books and homework.

Main Textbook: "The Way to Success - Intermediate Business Chinese Case Tutorial"

4)  Grading and assessment

Assessment comprises mainly of closed-book examinations, though the classroom attitude, level of participation, attendance and improvement all factor into final marks. Grades will be awarded as a percentage (i.e. maximum 100).

• For average 20 students in a class.

• Chinese Calligraphy, Chinese Painting

Textbook and Elective course

• Textbook: Approx. RMB 100 per person 
• Elective course: RMB 300 per person per course

Extracurricular Activities (The fee may be changed depending on the current market situation)

• One day in Zhouzhuang (July.13, RMB 300 (Approx. US $ 48) per person.)
• Two-days trip to Hangzhou & Wuzhen (July.20 –July.21, RMB 750 (Approx. US $ 120) per person.)
• One day in Soochow (July.27, RMB 380 (Approx. US $ 60) per person.)
• Acrobatics Show (Jul 17, RMB 180 (Approx. US $ 30) per person per time)

Accommodation

• Lian Xing Building (Single Room): RMB 120/day(Approx. US$19) (Private bathroom, air-conditioner, TV, Telephone, Internet access)
• No.9 Dormitory Building (Single Room): RMB 130/day(Approx. US$21) (Public bathroom, air-conditioner, TV, Telephone, microwave oven, refrigerator, Internet access )

※ Room reservation should be made when application. If dormitories are full, we do not accept any room reservation. The accommodation fees should be paid on the registration day and it is nonrefundable.
