Law School


The Law School of BNU, a secondary entity affiliated to BNU, is specialized in teaching, research and talents cultivation. In 1995, BNU kicked off its history of law discipline by establishing law major in philosophy department. By 2002, the law department, based on the law major in philosophy department, was founded independently. By the year 2005, the 11th Five-year-plan of BNU highlighted the building and development of law disciplines. Accordingly, on November 2,2005, Law Disciplines Reform Leading Group, led by Pro. Zhao Bingzhi, was set up to prepare for the establishment of law school. After 6 months of busy preparation, the Law School of BNU was formally founded on April 26, 2006.

Still at the debut, the Law School boasts a faculty of over 60members, over 95% LLD. The Law School and the existing CCLS of BNU jointly constitute the integral law disciplines of BNU. The Law School commands 7 teaching and research centers and 1 general office. The 7 teaching and research centers are Teaching and Research Center of Constitutional and Administrative law, Teaching and Research Center of Civil and Commercial law, Teaching and Research Center of Economic and Environment Resources Law, Teaching and Research Center of Criminal Jurisprudence, Teaching and Research Center of Procedure Law, Teaching and Research Center of International Law.

The Law School is authorized to issue such 4 master degrees as law theory, criminal jurisprudence, procedural law and international law, and such 3 doctorate degrees as criminal Jurisprudence, procedural law, civil and commercial law.

Since foundation, Law School has sponsored or co-sponsored over 10 international and domestic symposiums. Law School is now in close exchange with worldwide higher-education entities including Chinese University of Hong Kong and South Korea Youngsan University as well, and is just negotiating with several law schools in other countries to sigh academic cooperation agreement. Meanwhile, over 60 teachers have attended the international academic conferences abroad, and many scholars from USA, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong visited Law School and gave lectures here.
