Light Industry & Textile & Food Engineering

College of Light Industry, Textile and Food Engineering, Sichuan University was founded in July 2001. It was combined with former “College of Light Industry and Food Engineering” and “Textile College”; it grew based on the former leather specialty and food chemical engineering specialty of Sichuan Institute of Chemical Technology established in 1952 and the state's first chemical fiber specialty of Chengdu Institute of Technology established in 1958. After over half a century of development, it become one of the most powerful and prominent colleges of Sichuan university.

Now, College of Light Industry, Textile and Food Engineering is set up with Department of Biomass and Leather Engineering, Department of Textile and Clothing Engineering, Department of Food Engineering, Institute of Textile Research, National Engineering Laboratory for Clean Technology of Leather Manufacture, National Speciality Laboratory of Leather Engineering, Key Laboratory of Leather Chemistry & Engineering of Ministry of Education and Sichuan Key Laboratory of Food Engineering. The Collage has 5 undergraduate majors, 14 master majors,1 engineering master major, 5 doctoral majors, 2 postdoctoral research stations, 1 national engineering laboratory, 1 key laboratory of Ministry of Education, 1 national key discipline, 4 province key disciplines, 1 "211" Project key discipline, combined construct 1 "985" Platform and a hosting Chinese Core Journals "Leather Science and Engineering". There are about 1800 undergraduate students, 300 Masters and Ph.D. students.  

The college has strong faculty and first-class academic standards. There are 120 full-time teachers, including 33 full professors, 32 associate professors, 15 doctoral supervisors, including 1 Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 lecture professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program, 3 “Young and Middle-Aged Experts Nationally Acknowledged for their Outstanding Achievements”, 1 national outstanding teacher, 1 Vice Chairman of Teaching-Advisory Committee of Ministry of Education for Light Industry and Food Discipline and Chairman of Teaching-Advisory Sub-Committee for Chemical Engineering in Light Industry Major, 4 members of Teaching-Advisory Committee of Ministry of Education.

The College has strong research strength. In recent years, we had undertaken National Science and Technology Support projects, National 973 and 863 Project, National Science Foundation, National Outstanding Youth Foundation, International Cooperation Project of Ministry of Science and Technology, Doctoral Fund of Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Education project, other research programs through various ministries, provincial and municipal projects and a large number of commissioned projects by enterprises and institutions. From 2007 to 2009, the total scientific research funds that the College received are over 50 million RMB, over 1,000 papers were published in various types, including over 200 SCI and EI covered papers, 12 National "Eleventh Five-Year" monograph and teaching materials were published, 52 national patents and over 20 national, provincial and ministerial level awards were obtained.

The College attaches great importance to carry out academic exchanges with foreign counterparts, has established extensive contacts and cooperation with academic and research institutions from the United States, Britain, Japan, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Korea, Singapore, Italy, Australia and other countries and regions. The well-known scholar of our collage-Prof. Shibi has taken up the president of the International Leather Chemists and Technologists Association (IULTCS). We host the China-Korea International Symposium on Food Technology and China-Japan International Symposium on Food and Brewing Technology, every four years; We has undertaken the seventh Asian International Conference of Leather Science and Technology, and China-Japan Symposium on Polymer and Fiber, established the Undergraduate "2+2" Joint Training Projects with Australia Monash University, established Exchange Students Program with Mokpo University, Korea.

Faced with opportunities and challenges of the new century, the whole teachers and students will be guided by Scientific Development Ideas, and enhance awareness of independent innovation, hard work, to make new contributions to lead the country in light industry, textile and food industry's rapid development!
