School of Civil and Transportation Engineering

School of Civil and Transportation Engineering (CTE) was founded in January, 2008, by amalgamating the former College of Civil Engineering and College of Transportation of our university. SCUT has a faculty of 186 members, including 3 academicians of the Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, 2 lecture professors of "Young and Middle-Aged Experts Nationally Acknowledged for Their Outstanding Achievements", 26 doctoral supervisors, 38 professors, 61 associated professors, 94 of whom have earned Ph.D. Currently the School has a total enrollment of 3,115 students, including 1,384 undergraduates, 585 graduates, 219 doctorate candidates, and 524 masters of engineering candidates. Another 403 are studying at the schools of Continuing Education.

CTE consists of 5 colleges, 1 experiment center, and 1 mechanics experiment center (provincial experiment and teaching center), 10 scientific research institutes. Its experiment centers of civil structure and highway-bridge testing have passed CMA conducted by the Guangdong Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision. Moreover, the research laboratories of subtropical architecture technology and subtropical architecture disaster proof are the branches of national key laboratory of subtropical architecture.

CTE has 2 post-doctorate stations of civil engineering and mechanics engineering. It offers 1 first-grade discipline doctorate program of civil engineering, 9 second-grade discipline doctorate programs, and 21 master’s degree programs including 3 first-grade, 18 second-grade programs, among which structure engineering and solid mechanics are the key disciplines of Guangdong province. Its civil engineering and engineering mechanics are Guangdong excellent disciplines. And its courses of theoretical mechanics and material mechanics are honored excellent courses of Guangdong province.

CTE enjoys a faculty of excellence and well-equipped facilities and advanced teaching resources. Through the development under the 211 Projects, and 985 Project, SCMT has achieved significant improvement and shaped its own unique features in many research fields. The School has always been making efforts in the research and development in the fundamentals and application technology in architecture, transportation and related fields domestically and regionally and in the development of qualified technical talents.
