BA in Economics

The BA program in economics provides the knowledge of essential economic theories, the skills of using statistical techniques to analyze economic phenomena, and more specific fields within economics, such as labor economics, international trade, developing and transitional economies, and money and banking.
 

The economics major provides flexibility and opportunity to go in many directions, both inside and outside of the field of economics. In fact, most economics majors do not work as economists, but in business careers of all varieties. The program offers a clear, concise and rigorous way of thinking and problem solving. As a major it offers ideal preparation for graduate study in law, finance, international relations or public policy, or for work on an MBA degree. Whatever the career plans, economics major can give a student the edge he needs to further his long-term goals.
 

The program includes General Education, Economics Concentration and Electives.
 

General Education
is to develop students’ knowledge and skills in areas of Academic Writing, Foreign Language, Epistemology and Cognition, Ethical Thought and Moral Values, Historical Analysis, Literature and the Arts, Quantitative Reasoning, Science and Technology, Social Analysis, etc.
 

Economics Concentration mainly includes:
       Principles of Macroeconomics
       Principles of Microeconomic
       Introduction to Mathematical Economics
       Statistics with Computer Applications
       Intermediate Microeconomic Theory
       Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory
       History of Economic Thought
       Introduction to Econometrics
 

Elective Courses
allow students to choose some additional courses in economics or political science. Courses offered include Economy of China, Labor Economics and Finance and Banking. Students are also given opportunities to select courses from other department that not related to economics.
 

The BA program is a full-time 4-year program. Students in this program can apply to transfer to US or UK partner universities from their third year if entry requirements are met.
